Oshkosh Residents Lucky to Have Two Top Hospitals
Convenient access is a real shot in the arm.
Time for a checkup? No problem, with two state-of-the-art medical facilities allowing Oshkosh residents to receive quality care without having to leave home. Here is some background:
Ascension Mercy Medical Center
Providing care to the Oshkosh community since 1891, Mercy Medical Center has 157 patient beds and a staff of more than 650 employees. Residents can rely on a 24/7/365 emergency department, and service specialties at Mercy include cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, obstetrics, neurosurgery and rehabilitation.
In June, the hospital opened an inpatient psychiatric unit tailored toward older adults, making it the only one of its kind in the Fox Valley.
The hospital also houses the Kennedy Center for the Hip and Knee, a nationally recognized program for hip and knee replacement surgery. Other services available to patients at Mercy include behavioral health, diabetes, gynecology, pain management, palliative care, sleep lab, sports medicine and wound care.
Aurora Medical Center
With the first nationally accredited breast care center in the Fox Valley region, Aurora Medical Center is a 320,000-square-foot, full-service hospital that has a 24-hour emergency room as well as the latest diagnosis and treatment services, including MRI and CT, a linear accelerator for radiation oncology, and a dialysis unit.
Also available is women’s health care, neurological care and apheresis services, which is the process of removing your blood to collect a single component such as red cells and then flowing the remainder of the blood back into your body. Aurora Medical also features a Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, which provides patients with spiritual and emotional support along with access to the latest research, techniques and trails.
