There are many excellent choices for getting a specialized, private education in Johnston County, starting in preschool and extending through the college experience.

Christian-based, Private Schools

Southside Christian School in Clayton provides biblical integration of all subjects and staff from over 70 local churches to approximately 100 students in grades K-10. Parents are required to show proof of church membership. Gateway Christian School is a daycare/preschool in Benson, offering classes for children who are not yet in grade school. Lighthouse Christian Academy in Angier, offers K-11 and  Academy of Hope, in Clayton, is an all-girl Christian school for troubled girls age 12 to 17

Neuse Charter School

Johnston County’s only free public charter school made news in 2011 when it opened a 26-acre campus off Booker Dairy Road, with separate pods for kindergarten, elementary (grades 1-5), middle school (6-8) and high school (9-12). The school opened in 2007 and today has about 750 students. Neuse Charter School admits students through a lottery system and focuses on international studies, offering foreign language education as early as kindergarten. In October 2013, the school broke ground on a three-story building for high school students that will include 15 classrooms, two science labs, two technology labs and four “floating study areas.”

Partnership for Children of Johnston County

This nonprofit organization provides a variety of programs and services to assist families. Partnership for Children programs provide support and information for families seeking child care options. The partnership also oversees an intensive parent education program that educates families on child development and parenting skills, in order to promote child language, intellectual growth, and physical and social-emotional skills.
