No matter your educational and professional goals, Chattanooga State Community College (ChattState) has the tools to help you reach them. Located in the heart of Chattanooga, Tennessee, ChattState offers short-term certificates, one-year technical diplomas and two-year degree programs to fit your schedule and time frame.
Whether you are trying to move up at work or embark on an exciting new career, ChattState has the programs to help you meet your goals. “We work with the community to offer in-demand programs and develop courses that teach the skills students need to succeed,” says Chris Lykins, ChattState’s director of marketing and communications.

What ChattState Offers:
- Short-term certificates can be earned in as little as three weeks. Certificates prepare students for entry-level positions in high-demand fields like Cybersecurity, Welding and Digital Marketing, regardless of previous experience. Workforce development programs, often funded by employers or scholarships, can help bridge skill gaps.
- One-year technical diplomas from the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) at ChattState offer full-time, hands-on training in high-demand fields, including practical nursing, automotive technician, industrial electricity and more.
- Two-year associate degrees allow students to enter the workforce with skills in humanities, business, engineering, science and many other areas. Low student-to-teacher ratios enhance the student experience, and career counselors prepare students for the workforce and help them find jobs. Programs like TN Promise and TN Reconnect offer free tuition to many Tennesseans.
- The TN Transfer Pathway (TTP) program guarantees that associate degree credits transfer to a four-year public university (and many private ones) in the state. 57% of graduates transfer to a university or another college.
ChattState’s Pathways to Success
ChattState’s pathways also allow students to apply what they’ve learned in short-term programs toward earning a technical diploma or undergraduate degree credits at no additional cost, saving both time and money.
“Our career pathways empower students to leverage their credits from short-term programs towards achieving a technical diploma or associate degree,” Lykins says. “We meet students wherever they are on their journey, whether they’re currently in the workforce or just beginning, and guide them to the next level. We understand that many of our students are here to pursue better careers and better lives; we are committed to supporting their success.”

Affordability, flexibility, location and quality of education combine to make ChattState a great place for any student to start. “ChattState is ready to help students achieve their goals, whether they want to learn a new skill or start a new career,” Lykins says. “You can start at ChattState and go anywhere.”
