Synovus’ New Office Signals Long-Term Commitment to Columbus, GA

Synovus’ move into its new corporate office at Riverfront Place in late 2024 is more than a change of address – it’s a statement about the company’s historic connection to Columbus and its role in shaping the city’s future. The headquarters anchors the next phase of Uptown’s riverfront redevelopment, signaling long-term confidence in the city center. 

The homegrown financial institution relocated about 500 employees into the seven-story, 190,000-square-foot building overlooking the Chattahoochee River. 

Designed to honor the city’s industrial roots, the office space incorporates traditional materials like brick and steel alongside modern features such as an in-house café, fitness center, expansive outdoor terrace and electric vehicle charging stations. Collaborative spaces are designed to bring teams together and support hybrid work. 

The new facility sits within Riverfront Place, a $250 million mixed-use development by the W.C. Bradley Co. that combines residential, retail, hospitality and office space. Phases 3 and 4, which include the Synovus building, add more than 1 million square feet of space to the riverfront between 13th and 14th streets. 

Synovus Chairman, CEO and President Kevin Blair says the relocation is part of a strategy to consolidate operations for greater efficiency and collaboration. 

“We are grateful to the W.C. Bradley Co. for the transformational and economically beneficial development work they continue to do on behalf of our community,” Blair says. 

Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson called Synovus’ commitment “an incredible day for Columbus, Georgia,” crediting both companies for their “vision and their commitment to this community.” 

With hundreds of employees moving into Uptown, local shops, restaurants and other businesses can expect a significant increase in foot traffic. The new office space offers direct access to the beautiful 15-mile Columbus RiverWalk and Mathews D. Swift Park, providing plenty of green space for employees and visitors. 

Additionally, the development features a full-service Synovus bank branch on the ground floor, offering personal and business banking, mortgage and investment solutions. 

W.C. Bradley Real Estate President and COO Pace Halter says the move is a significant moment for the city. 

“Having the bank renew its commitment to Uptown Columbus is a significant step in the continued growth of the City of Columbus and the overall region,” Halter says. 

With a 15-year lease and options to extend for up to 20 more years, Synovus has signaled that its roots in Columbus remain strong – and will continue to play a central role in the city’s next phase of growth and revitalization.
