#92. Longmont, CO

Longmont, CO has everything you need to be successful, whether you’re raising young kids, starting your own business, pursuing a new career path or hoping to make a difference in your community. Home to roughly 100,000 people, Longmont is conveniently located between Boulder, Denver and Fort Collins and can be more affordable than some of its Front Range neighbors. With a big emphasis on open space and trails, a friendly, down-to-earth vibe, tons of innovative restaurants, bars and breweries, and a culture that supports everything from outdoor adventure to art, Longmont is somewhere you’ll never want to leave.

Top Colleges/Universities: Front Range Community College

Top Industries & Employers: Education, tech, health care, aviation and manufacturing

Weekend Plans: Hit up the Boulder County Farmers Market, go antiquing at Front Range Mercantile and Tables to Teacups, ride bikes along the St. Vrain Greenway Trail and stop by Summit Tacos for street tacos and margs. Be sure to catch the sunset at Vance Brand Municipal Airport, too.

Favorite Place to Feast: Jefe’s Tacos and Tequila or Rosalee’s Pizzeria.

Beloved Beverage: Left Hand’s Nitro Milk Stout.

Outdoorsy Activity: Go tubing down St. Vrain Creek, which was severely damaged by flooding in 2013 but has since been revitalized and turned into a float course.

Rooftop Bar: The Roost, located on Longmont’s historic Main Street, offers tons of whiskey selections (plus great tater tots!).

Why Your Pet Will Love It, Too: People love to bring their dogs along for an afternoon of sipping craft beer on various brewery patios throughout Longmont. A few dog-friendly (and totally rad) spots include Oskar Blues Tasty Weasel, Wibby, Grossen Bart, Bootstrap, Pumphouse and 300 Suns, to name just a few.

Remote Work Perk: Longmont has its own municipal fiber gigabit internet service called NextLight. Not only is it super fast and reliable, but it’s also incredibly affordable, which makes working from home (or watching Netflix after work!) a super seamless, pain-free experience.

One More Thing … Longmont has a unique backstory. In 1870, a group of people living in Chicago packed up their belongings and moved whole-hog to the site that is now Longmont. They sold memberships for this new town, then called the Chicago-Colorado Colony, and built the city from scratch, bringing their own lumber and building materials from Illinois.
