Milk

$621.4 million 

Milk receipts in San Joaquin County totaled just over 31 million hundredweights (CWT) of milk produced and sold for approximately $20 per unit. According to US Farm Data, San Joaquin County alone has over 150 dairy farms, ranking third in the state behind Tulare and Stanislaus counties. 

Cherries

$273.3 million 

Coming in fourth in cash receipts, cherries were also the fourth-ranking export, with 13,099 tons exported to countries including South Korea and Japan. San Joaquin County also ranked first in the state for cherry production in 2022, with over 50% of cherries grown in the county, including popular varieties like Rainier, Brooks and Tulare. 

Eggs

$238.9 million 

San Joaquin County ranked first in California egg production in 2022. The county produced 22% of eggs in the state in 2022. Total receipts grew exponentially in 2023, up from $174 million in 2022. That’s over 56 million dozens of eggs at $4.24 per unit. 

Grapes

$393.8 million 

In 2023, over 640,000 tons of grapes were grown across 81,600 acres, bringing in $615 per unit. San Joaquin County leads the state in grape production, ahead of even Sonoma and Napa. Top wine grape varietals include chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and merlot, which thrive in the Mediterranean climate of San Joaquin Valley. 

Walnuts

$149.3 million 

Walnuts were San Joaquin County’s top export in 2023, with over 72,000 metric tons shipped around the world. Walnut crops flourished across 70,100 acres, producing 160,000 tons of nuts. Nut tree acreage across the county has seen an increase in recent years, with a 100,000-acre expansion within the past decade. 

Tomatoes

$147.3 million 

Fresh and processed tomatoes were up from $114.1 million in 2022, thanks to an increase in acreage and pricing. Around 18,500 acres of tomatoes were harvested, totaling around 912,000 tons of produce. 

Almonds

$343.5 million 

Almond meats in San Joaquin County brought in the bulk of receipts in 2023, with shells and hulls combined bringing in another $50 million. Almond meat sold at $3,120 per unit, with 110,200 tons produced across the county. Almonds were also the second-ranking export in 2023, with over 57,000 tons leaving San Joaquin County. 

Cattle and Calves

$145.5 million 

Cattle and calf production saw an increase in 2023, up from $128.9 million. The county is home to 135,000 head of cattle totaling over 1 million pounds in live weight.
