San Joaquin County lies about an hour and a half inland from San Francisco and is best known for its thriving agricultural and viticultural landscapes. But with an equally thriving entrepreneurial scene, it’s quickly becoming known as a flourishing hub for startups, too. 

Entrepreneurs don’t have to look far for the support they need to launch their businesses. Here are six essential resources, built to help new ventures get off the ground.

1. Huddle Cowork + Create 

Located in historic downtown Stockton, Huddle Cowork + Create offers entrepreneurs the physical space and technology they need to work, without the commitment and overhead that comes with a lease. 

Some of its most popular offerings include mailboxes, private offices and a highly rated boutique photo studio. But business owners will find that the support does not end there. 

“Huddle is home to 300 plus entities across all sectors, many of which have been members for five years and counting. It’s a space for our community to connect, create and find their way,” says co-owner Matthew Amen. “Huddle is deeply connected to both the private and public sectors and leverages this to assist Stocktonians who happen to make their way through our doors and ask for help. 2. WorkVine209 

As workspace specialists, Eric and Lynda Hawkins, owners of WorkVine209 in Tracy, have thoughtfully designed a coworking space that offers entrepreneurs all the perks of a corporate office. Professional private offices, conference rooms, lounge areas and office technology are some of the benefits accessible to members – in addition to a diverse peer group. 

“We host a diverse community of entrepreneurs, including technology developers, finance professionals, real estate experts and food industry innovators,” says Eric Hawkins. 

With their latest venture, Street Eats Food Truck Park, now providing space for businesses in the food industry, Eric says there has been a significant increase in activity within the food industry.

3. Entrepreneur Lab 

Early entrepreneurs seeking hands-on help will find one-on-one mentorship through Entrepreneur Lab’s intensive 12-week program. Coaching and training by startup professionals skilled in sales, marketing, scaling and other business essentials are among the resources available to participants, as well as access to investment networks and exposure to potential capital opportunities. Participants graduate with a pitch deck in hand, prepared to approach venture capitalists.

4. San Joaquin SBDC 

As part of the greater NorCal Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the San Joaquin SBDC offers support to the local entrepreneurial community. Services aim to touch every stage of business, from planning and funding to legal and human resources, and even the inevitable challenges that come along the way. 

Monthly virtual and in-person training and workshops on a variety of topics, including marketing and growth, are just a few of the interactive resources that entrepreneurs can turn to while navigating their business journey and goals.

5. Main Street Launch 

Low-to-moderate income entrepreneurs have a dedicated ally in Stockton’s Main Street Launch, an organization on a mission since 1979 to create economic opportunity by empowering entrepreneurs of diverse backgrounds. 

Backed by prominent funders – including Google, the U.S. Small Business Administration and Bank of America – Main Street Launch offers a wide scope of services to existing and emerging business owners. Notable resources include business education, networking opportunities and access to loans at competitive interest rates.

6. Chamber of Commerce 

With a dedicated Chamber of Commerce for each San Joaquin County community, entrepreneurs can count on local access to business resources, including monthly networking mixers and a staff of helpful business experts who can help guide business owners every step of the way. Notably, the San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce focuses on supporting entrepreneurs through programs, workshops and special events.
