These days, it isn’t necessary for residents to enter an address in a GPS to find their way to quality health care in Castle Rock, CO.

With the opening of a new cancer treatment center on the horizon and leading robotic surgery procedures available here, the community can now find the latest in technology and research-driven advances close to home.

New Facilities in Castle Rock

One dynamic event taking place in Castle Rock, designed to provide excellent health care in the area, is the ongoing construction of a 70,000-square-foot medical office building on the same grounds as AdventHealth Castle Rock.

The estimated $14 million, multilevel structure features an ambulatory surgery center with a focus on providing same-day surgical care. Patients began being treated there during the spring of 2023. One of the goals of the hospital is to have a floor dedicated to offering comprehensive musculoskeletal services, including orthopedics, physical therapy and a sports injury treatment center in the new building.

On the agenda is the anticipated 2025 opening of space dedicated to medical oncology services, offering radiation therapy, chemotherapy and a clinic for patients to visit with their medical oncologist.

“I always say our goal as a community hospital is to be able to care for 90% of everything that happens in our community,” says Jeremy Pittman, AdventHealth Castle Rock CEO. “We will be able to achieve that goal by bringing cancer services to Castle Rock. It’s all about supporting our community and those with cancer.”

There will also be a demonstration kitchen where patients can learn firsthand new recipes that keep up energy levels during their cancer treatment. Additionally, residents will benefit from a survivorship program, created to connect patients with other cancer survivors in their community.

“Traveling for care becomes a huge burden on people and so our goal is to provide that care locally, so it doesn’t impact families in that way, and they can focus on getting better,” Pittman says.

The local Town Council is supporting the new expansion by approving an economic agreement that will rebate $367,000 in town fees to the hospital. The town’s contribution equates to 7% of the cost of the oncology care annually serving about 600 residents diagnosed with cancer, who must travel elsewhere for treatment.

Robotic surgery in Castle Rock.
Sky Ridge Medical Center

A Leader in Robotic Surgery

A commitment to excellence has always been a key hallmark of the nearly 300-bed Sky Ridge Medical Center, and this high standard earned it recognition by Healthgrades as a top-100 hospital in the country and among the top 5% in the nation for surgical care.

Already a leader in robotic surgery in Colorado, Sky Ridge Medical Center recently opened its 26,000-square-foot Center for Robotic Surgery in the Evergreen Medical Office Building on the campus. The center features four operating rooms, eight pre-op and six recovery rooms, as well as easy access to the hospital.

While Sky Ridge uses robotics for gynecologic, bariatric, colorectal, thoracic, urology and general surgery procedures, a fast-growing area is gynecologic oncology.

Dr. Jeff James, a gynecologic oncologist at Sky Ridge, says robotic technology has enabled his team to remove tumors and treat more complex cancer cases more effectively. “We are providing our patients with better outcomes and fewer complications,” James says.

Some of the benefits of robotic surgery for patients include:

  • Smaller incisions, less pain and scarring.
  • Less blood loss.
  • Reduced risk of infection
  • Shorter hospital stays.
  • A faster return to normal activities.

“Our community is seeking robotic surgical options as this technique affords physicians more precision, flexibility and control than is possible with conventional approaches,” says Kirk McCarty, Sky Ridge Medical Center CEO. “We are extraordinarily proud of the surgeons who work here as well as our dedicated robotics operating room team. They are passionate about what they do and deliver exceptional, high quality, compassionate care.”
