Located in Southern Colorado, Pueblo is known for its moderate climate and welcoming locals, but it also boasts community-oriented festivals, unique industries offering career opportunities and excellent resources for entrepreneurs. Pueblo has a rich history as a frontier town, and locals and visitors alike enjoy year-round access to the area’s ample recreational offerings.

Wondering if living in Pueblo might be a good fit for you? Here are five reasons why you should consider calling this Colorado city home.

1. You’ll Love the Climate

People who enjoy four distinct seasons with lots of sunshine find a lot to like about Pueblo, as the high desert climate offers upwards of 300 sunny days per year, without the extreme heat common to many desert climes, or the extreme cold of other high elevation cities in the west.

2. It’s a Great Place to Do Business

Pueblo rolls out the red carpet for would-be business owners or those who want to bolster their existing one. At the Business & Technology Center in downtown Pueblo, you’ll find a business incubator program that includes education, entrepreneurial development and even office space. Also downtown, the Small Business Development Center offers business consulting and training to help businesses grow. The Rural Jump-Start Program incentivizes new businesses to start up or expand in rural communities.

3. Industries Thrive Here

Pueblo is home to a steel industry that has thrived for decades and, among other things, produces 45% of the railroad tracks in North America. A rich agricultural community, a varied manufacturing industry that ranges from coffee to concrete, businesses in the aerospace industry, burgeoning hemp and cannabis industries, and businesses expanding in the outdoor recreation space provide ample career opportunities.

4. A Riverwalk Meanders Through Pueblo

The Pueblo Riverwalk is another popular destination for residents, especially between June and September. Today, the Riverwalk is home to over 60 pieces of public art, leisure boat rides, an outstanding food and beverage scene, great shopping, live music and numerous community events.

5. The Outdoors Offer So Much to Explore

Pueblo is surrounded by Colorado’s amazing great outdoors. There are miles of trails for all levels of hiking and biking, an iconic disc golf course, world-class fly fishing in restored Arkansas River waters, all the water activities – including the Whitewater Park – ample rock climbing and so much more.

6. Get Immersed in Region’s Rich History

Pueblo was once home to warriors of the Ute and Jacarillo Apache tribes, became an important trading post in the Gold Rush era and, just 30 years later, emerged as a nationwide hub of steel production. That industry recruited workers from around the world – and at one point the town had newspapers published in 36 languages. Today, Pueblo’s diversity can be seen in restaurants and at local museums like the El Pueblo History Museum and the Pueblo Heritage Museum.

7. The Fun Never Stops in Pueblo

Pueblo loves a reason to celebrate and hosts numerous events that the community loves to support. The Colorado State Fair features carnival rides, food, a rodeo and agricultural competitions. In September, the Pueblo Chile & Frijoles Festival is a celebration of the region’s iconic green chiles and beans, with food, music and vendors. There are two bike races in Pueblo each year – the Gravel Locos and the Pueblo Classic – and the holidays are a grand affair, too, with the Parade of Lights, Beulah Yule Log Festival and holiday lights at the Pueblo Zoo, Pueblo Riverwalk, and Pueblo County Courthouse.

8. Pueblo Loves and Honors Its Heroes

The camaraderie and support of veterans is very strong in Pueblo, which has a deep-rooted military history that inspired its moniker as the “Home of Heroes.” Pueblo’s veteran-friendly reputation continues to grow, especially with the recent opening of the Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center in Pueblo, which serves the 14,000 veterans who live in the region with programs that range from housing and food aid to counseling services and veteran career coaching.
