Kingspan Maintains a Dedication to Environmental Sustainability

Construction is an industry known for its high carbon footprint, but Kingspan Insulated Panels, a global building materials company that primarily makes building envelope products, is changing the narrative with the refurbishment of its North American insulated metal panels headquarters in DeLand, FL. Environmentally conscious materials are at the heart of what Kingspan does – after all, their motto is Better Buildings for a Better World, and they’re at the forefront, driving innovation, sustainability and performance. 

Operating in over 80 countries around the globe, Kingspan’s Planet Passionate initiative promotes environmental stewardship, and nowhere is their commitment to sustainability more evident than their own renovation project. The 29,000-square-foot space has been stripped of its interior and exterior walls, its insulation recycled for reuse in the new building and the asphalt and concrete reused outside. Waste insulation foam was used in cement mix and in exterior pavers used in the project, too. With a goal of reducing the carbon impact of the renovated office compared to a demolition and rebuild, Kingspan is installing solar panels that will produce 715,000 kilowatts of electricity along with a 5,000-gallon rainwater harvesting tank to be used for nonpotable water. The revamped building has a long list of eco-friendly attributes, including EV charge stations, a goal of zero office waste to landfill and an aim to get LEED Gold Certification and International Living Future Institute Net Zero Carbon + Energy certification.

Their reach goes beyond the walls of their new building and into the local community with their Planet Passionate Communities project. In Volusia County, they have participated in Daytona Beach cleanup and Volusia County cleanup at Lake Beresford Park, supported the ME STRONG 5K race and organized donation collections for the West Volusia Humane Society.
