Volusia County Health Care Providers Invest in Innovation and Specialization
Volusia County’s growing population is fueling a new era of health care investment, with major providers undertaking large-scale expansions to increase access, modernize facilities and strengthen clinical capabilities. Two of the county’s leading health systems – AdventHealth Daytona Beach and Halifax Health in partnership with the University of Florida Health – are making significant moves to ensure high-quality care keeps pace with community needs.
$220M Expansion
AdventHealth Daytona Beach is in the middle of a multiyear $220 million construction project that will significantly increase the hospital’s inpatient capacity and clinical services. The expansion adds 104 beds, four new surgical suites and more than 240,000 square feet to the campus, which opened in 2009.
The project involves vertical expansions on two existing towers. Once complete in fall 2026, the hospital will grow from 362 beds to 466 and nearly 1 million square feet, establishing it as one of the largest and most technologically advanced hospitals in east-central Florida. Surgical capacity will also increase from 18 to 22 suites.
The expansion targets critical care areas, adding a larger cardiovascular intensive care unit and a new dedicated neuro-ICU to handle the rising demand for complex cardiac and neurological cases. Support services are also being strengthened through new facilities for the pharmacy, laboratory and sterile processing, along with expanded imaging capabilities.
This latest effort builds upon AdventHealth’s prior $45.7 million investment in a new ambulatory surgery center and medical office building, which opened in 2024. The entire expansion effort is designed for future scalability as the region continues to grow.

AdventHealth Daytona Beach is consistently recognized locally and nationally for patient safety and clinical excellence.
In 2025, U.S. News & World Report named the hospital the No. 1 hospital in the Deltona-Daytona Beach Metro area for the fifth consecutive year. The medical center was also ranked No. 14 in Florida and was recognized as high performing in 14 adult procedures and conditions.
Daytona received its Thrombectomy Capable certification in June 2023 and currently operates a stroke clinic, which opened in September 2025. Every patient who is discharged with a TIA or a stroke has a follow-up appointment in the stroke clinic.
In 2024, DNV awarded AdventHealth Daytona Beach the Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification, reflecting the highest level of competence for treating serious stroke events. At that time, AdventHealth Daytona Beach was the only hospital in Volusia, Flagler and St. Johns counties to earn this level of designation.
New Neurosciences Center in Daytona
In another major step forward, Halifax Health and UF Health celebrated the opening of the UF Health Neurosciences Center in June 2025. This partnership expands access to neurological care, neurosurgery and pain medicine – services increasingly critical as the county’s population grows and ages.
The center combines advanced technology with a multidisciplinary clinical team, delivering comprehensive neurosurgical services in a modern environment. By bringing academic-level medicine and specialized faculty from UF Health directly to Volusia County, the collaboration reduces the need for residents to travel for complex care such as advanced stroke interventions and spine procedures.

Halifax Health offers the area’s only Level II trauma center and a Level III neonatal ICU.
