Among the many livability assets enjoyed by Magic Valley residents is a strong arts-and-culture scene, and that includes fun festivals and annual events. Here are three signature events in Southern Idaho where residents and visitors can experience the region’s vibrant Western culture:
Gooding Pro Rodeo
Gooding, home to Glanbia’s world’s-largest factory for barrel cheese, stages the annual Gooding Pro Rodeo for four days in mid-August. More than 100 top cowboys and cowgirls participate in competitions like steer wrestling, bareback riding, barrel racing, junior bull riding and steer roping. A fair at Gooding County Fairgrounds also accompanies the rodeo, highlighted by 4-H competitions and an FFA market animal sale. The 2024 pro rodeo will be the 99th year that Gooding serves as host city.
Camas Lily Days
Camas County is known for its country living while being close enough to urban amenities. The county seat of Fairfield hosts the annual Camas Lily Days every first weekend of June. Activities celebrating the beautiful blooming purple flowers include live music, a KidZone, free fishing derby, hot dog feed, beer garden and food vendors. Members of the Shoshone-Bannock American Indians present a tribal ceremony at Fairfield City Park.
Lost N Lava Cowboy Gathering
The farming and dairy community of Shoshone is largely known for its Shoshone Falls natural wonder. The city also showcases the annual Lost N Lava Cowboy Gathering music festival. Top Western musicians gather for two days every mid-September to celebrate the history and culture of cattle ranching, the rural West and the beauty of Southern Idaho. The 2024 concert extravaganza will be the 15th annual, with all events at Lincoln County Community Center & Fairgrounds.
