East Central Indiana: Love Where You Live
Local woman returns home and helps the community thrive.
Kallie Sulanke, chief community partner for outreach and donor relations at The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County, grew up in Muncie. After moving away for several years, she realized that the city was the perfect place to raise a family and returned home. Now, she works for The Community Foundation, which continues to expand its office space and impact downtown.
What is the primary role of The Community Foundation?
Our primary role is to build a lasting source of charitable assets. We work with people who are charitably inclined to establish or add to existing funds that support the community. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for all of Muncie and Delaware County.
Who is able to apply for Community Foundation grants?
Any nonprofit in the community is eligible to apply. We also have a scholarship program available for Delaware County high school seniors. They range from a single award of one $1,000 to a four-year award.
As a resident, what’s it like to work and live so close to downtown Muncie?
It’s really energizing to live in a community that has such a vibrant downtown where you can spend the day and experience so many different activities. Even though we are a smaller city, there is still a lot to offer in our downtown.
What would you like to say to the local donors who work together to make Muncie a good place to live – for all?
Our community is so fortunate to have such a charitable-minded population. We have people who just really care about the community. That’s true of our downtown, too. People want to give back because this is a good place to live, work and play.
