Time for a checkup? Boyle County residents have access to a wealth of health-care services, including those provided by Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, one of the most highly regarded hospitals in Kentucky.

“We have received three Gold Seals of Approval from The Joint Commission for our work in total knee replacement, total hip replacement and spine surgery, and we continue to advance as one of the more progressive and technologically capable hospital systems in Kentucky,” says Keith Bridges, vice president of Ephraim McDowell Health.

Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center is a nonprofit, 222-bed hospital in downtown Danville that is recognized as one of the Top 100 Hospitals in the nation. Other components of the Ephraim McDowell Health network include an OrthoSpineCenter that features a rehabilitation gym and a rehabilitation apartment, a Diabetes & Endocrinology Center that provides individualized treatment and education programs, and an Ephraim McDowell Heart & Vascular Institute.

In addition, McDowell Wellness Center is a physical fitness and rehabilitation complex that offers the latest in fitness equipment, an aerobics studio and a six-lane indoor pool. The center encourages Danville-Boyle County residents to make time for exercise with its Get Moving initiative that occurs over 10 weeks every spring.

“Also in 2017, we introduced a Women’s Breast & Health Center that offers a spa-like environment with private changing rooms, warm robes and a tranquility area with plush chairs and complimentary coffees, teas and water,” Bridges says. “It is the only women’s center in the region to offer 3D Tomosynthesis mammograms, and our women patients receive their test results in one day to remove anxiety, instead of waiting two weeks or longer which is often the case.”

Several Other Facilities

Also on the Danville health campus is Ephraim McDowell Commonwealth Cancer Center, which allows individuals challenged by a cancer diagnosis to remain close to home for treatment. Also under the health system’s umbrella is A Children’s Place daycare center and a Kids Can Do Pediatric Therapy Center that draws young patients from all over central Kentucky.

“In addition, we have more than 40 off-site specialty clinics and diagnostic centers, and our hospital has added a daVinci surgical robot that provides patients with a less invasive way for surgeries involving the colon, hernias, prostate operations, urology, some lung surgeries and future hysterectomy procedures,” Bridges says. “Our health system is always trying to advance to further help our patients from Boyle County and the other five other surrounding counties that we serve.”

Experience the Culture and Recreation that Danville, KY Offers

Ephraim McDowell House Museum

Ephraim McDowell House Museum honors Dr. Ephraim McDowell, who in 1809 performed an operation in his house to remove a 22-pound ovarian cyst from a dying patient named Jane Crawford. The successful surgery was amazing because anesthesia and modern sterilization techniques were unknown, and Mrs. Crawford made a complete recovery. The house museum is a national landmark open seven days a week.

Assisted Living Facilities

Boyle County is home to several well-regarded living facilities for older adults, including McDowell Place of Danville, a spacious and comfortable independent- and assisted-living community that offers a variety of daily activities to help keep residents alert and engaged. Charleston Health Care Center features a 90-bed facility with private and semi-private rooms, and Kindred Nursing & Rehabilitation in Danville is a 106-bed, for-profit nursing home that has won several awards. Also in Boyle County is Morning Pointe of Danville, which features 44 personal care and 16 Alzheimer’s memory care apartments.
