Oxford is an award-winning wedding destination because its businesses know how to make the most special day of your life even more special, whether you’re an Ole Miss student on to the next chapter, a native of the area or just someone who has a Mississippi vision for your wedding. Here are three reasons to have your perfect wedding in Oxford, MS.

Score a Breathtaking Venue

A perfect wedding in Oxford requires the right location, and this town has some spectacular choices.

The Jefferson, a tranquil 90-acre farm with an 18,000-square-foot venue space and picturesque lake, has landed on The Knot’s Best of Weddings list six times. The venue’s name is an homage to Oxford’s literary history. Long before the wedding venue, Oxford resident William Faulkner set many of his works in the fictional town of Jefferson.

Owned by siblings Tom Green and Margie Green Schloesser, the venue opened in 2016 and has grown its reputation as a premier wedding destination ever since.

“We are proud to have a great team of dedicated professionals who work tirelessly to make our couple’s day truly unforgettable,” Schloesser says.

Also in Oxford, Castle Hill Resort is a dreamy wedding destination with a scenic backdrop and Southern-style architecture.

Castle Hill has hosted more than 400 weddings, rehearsal dinners and special events since opening in 2003, and its Grand Ballroom is the largest indoor event space in Oxford. An intimate chapel is connected to the ballroom, so guests can choose a traditional ceremony space near their indoor or outdoor reception.

Closer to the Ole Miss campus, The Isom Place is a wedding and event venue that was first established in 1836 as the home of Dr. Thomas Islom and remains an elegant house with porch pillars and large windows.

The venue has a private courtyard and a well-manicured front lawn if a couple prefers an outdoor wedding, and its location, just off the historic Oxford Square, gives guests plenty to do and enjoy before and after the wedding.

Cater Fabulous Food for Your Oxford Wedding

Butch Scott

When Butch Scott’s business was voted Best Caterer in Mississippi Magazine’s 2023 list of Best of Weddings, he attributed his success to kindness and consistency. “We treat people like we like to be treated, we believe in customer service the old-fashioned way and we’re fair,” Scott, who is the owner of Taylor Grocery Special Events Catering, says. “And our food is delicious.”

Scott has a penchant for taking Southern comfort food and adding a twist of elegance. With a staff of nearly 50 people, Scott says it’s not uncommon to cater 50 events in a week. What’s the most requested food from the extensive list of options? That would be catfish, in one form or another. Taylor caters everything from casual backyard barbecues to grand gala weddings and is happy to create a custom menu.

“The ultimate compliment is when a mother of the bride rehires us for daughter No. 2’s wedding,” Scott says. “My motto with my employees is ‘The event we do today is our job interview for our next event.’”

Jason T. Plunk

Ride into the Sunset

Jason Plunk wants you to have a perfect ending to a perfect day, and he happily provides that service by extending his passion for antique cars to brides and grooms heading home from their perfect wedding.

“I actually stumbled into the business when a groom waved me down in traffic after his wedding car broke down,” Plunk says. “That next evening I met the couple’s wedding planner, and I’ve been driving for weddings in Oxford and the surrounding area ever since.”

Hotty Toddy Wedding Cars offers three cars to choose from: a 1948 Chrysler Windsor, a 1965 Ford Thunderbird and a 1959 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud I. Since Plunk is also the driver, he has no problem “going off script” to stop for a bride who’s craving a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, for instance. Between that and the nature of what he does, he says the community has been highly supportive.
