For young professionals, there are plenty of great job opportunities in Great Falls, MT. This city is a launching pad for careers, where newcomers can find ways to connect with other young professionals and enjoy a lower cost of living that makes it easier to settle down in the region.

Take Dr. Matt Wyman and Shyam Dorn, for instance; while it wasn’t that long ago they received their diplomas, they are already well on their way to climbing the career ladder.

Enjoy Community-Centric Living

Settling in Great Falls was always the goal for Wyman, a former Carroll College men’s basketball player and NAIA All-American, who returned to his hometown to begin his dental career.

“I was born and raised in Great Falls,” Wyman says. “I moved away for school but returned to serve the community.”

Wyman joined Dr. Sheldon Ivers’ office in June 2023, intending to establish his own practice someday.

“I was attracted back to Great Falls because of the opportunity to work with Dr. Ivers,” Wyman says. “My goal has always been to own a dental practice. Dr. Ivers is respected in the community and across the country. I respect the time and dedication Dr. Ivers has put into his career, helping Great Falls and its people. Working with someone like that is the best way to become that yourself, and that’s how I want to build my dental practice.”

Aside from the people, Wyman appreciates the plentiful opportunities for outdoor recreation. Some of his favorites include boating on the Missouri River and skiing at Showdown Montana.

Wyman also appreciates the lower cost of living and that residents here enjoy abundant job opportunities in Great Falls. Shortly after relocating, Wyman and his wife bought a home because they knew they’d be there for the long term. After comparing Great Falls housing to other locations, they settled on a home in one of their favorite neighborhoods.

“Like everywhere, the housing market has gone up, but there are still affordable options for young, newly married professionals in Great Falls,” Wyman says. “We bought a house in the neighborhood we liked and are familiar with. It was a much easier process than expected, and we enjoy our neighbors.”

Take Advantage of Endless Opportunities

Shyam Dorn, vice president of sales and marketing at Gusto Distributing, spent summers visiting Great Falls and was excited when afforded the opportunity to relocate to the community.

“I went to college at Montana State University, and even if I wasn’t here, it still felt like home because of the community,” Dorn says. “I was ready for a friendly community with the ability to know the people you’re interacting with and doing business.”

A job opportunity brought Dorn from Atlanta to Great Falls in August 2023.

“I spent four years working in the alcohol industry for Mark Anthony Brands on the supplier side. The biggest thing that brought me back was the opportunity to work on the distributor side,” Dorn says. “It was important to me to stay in the alcohol industry. When I discovered Gusto Distributing, I appreciated that it was a family business, and I would be able to effect change.”

And, Dorn says, aside from close interactions with leadership, traveling for work is a bonus. “The ability to expand your horizons is crucial to our business,” Dorn says. “You need that perspective and knowledge to help grow the market and business. It’s one of the many perks of my job.”

For those looking for job opportunities in Great Falls that are outside of the alcohol industry, Dorn says young professionals won’t fall short of options. “The whole town is hiring. Everyone here is looking for people who can perform at a high level,” Dorn says. “Companies need people willing to work and go the extra mile – businesses crave that energy.”

Dorn adds that if you’re a young professional looking for collaboration, you won’t have to go far.

“It can be hard to find opportunities to engage if they’re not put in front of you,” Dorn says. “The Great Falls Development Alliance hosts an annual event to help young professionals get acquainted. Doing business with people you haven’t met is not what we do here in Great Falls.”
