From a business perspective, being located in Greenville, NC, is a huge benefit. Just ask Thomas Taft Jr., principal at Taft Family Ventures.

Now in its third generation, the family-owned real estate investment firm has been thriving in Greenville since it was established by Taft’s grandfather, Edmund Hoover Taft, in 1942.

“We’ve been able to thrive in Greenville over the past 80-plus years because of the business-friendly nature here, the positive attitude that emanates from Greenville, and the pipeline of talent we get from the local university and community college,” Taft says.

“We have chosen to remain in Greenville even though our reach has significantly expanded beyond Greenville and Pitt County, and we’re grateful to be one of the rare companies that has been able to continue on into the third generation.”

Taft Family Ventures employs 35 people at its Greenville headquarters and many more in the field across the Southeast. The firm acquires, owns, develops, constructs and manages properties of all types, from retail and office to warehouse and affordable housing.

Through its affordable housing arm Taft-Mills Group, Taft Family Ventures has commenced construction on Arlington Trace, its largest Greenville project to date.

Arlington Trace is 180-home development that will serve the needs of those in the community who earn less than 60% of area median income. The first units are scheduled to be ready in November 2024.

“This project will fill a huge need in the city,” Taft says. “As with all Taft-Mills developments, there will be a focus on quality, safety and a sense of place for residents.”

Adler on the Avenue is Taft Family Ventures’ newest, market-rate development project. The five-story, 155-unit property aims to fill a void in the market for those looking for urban living and will set the standard for downtown living with top-of-the-market finishes, incredible on-site amenities and, most importantly, “The Avenue” right at your front door.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2024 with delivery of the first homes 18 months later.

“Taft has been the  leading participant in the redevelopment of ‘The Avenue,’ which had fallen into disrepair following its early life as the retail corridor of choice for the city,” Taft says.

“Beginning in 2015, Taft began investing in this district as an alternative to the college-heavy downtown bars and restaurants. This area is now thriving with dining, retail, breweries and other local favorites  that residents of Adler, Greenville and Eastern North Carolina can enjoy.”
