With its robust economy, outstanding lifestyle, friendly nature and rich cultural heritage, Jackson, TN, is the perfect spot to conduct business, put down roots or stop by for a visit.

To get a true feel for all Jackson offers, simply head to the heart of the Hub City.

“Downtown Jackson is a reflection of what makes this city truly special – a community that values neighborly support, a commitment to quality of life and a deep appreciation for the art, history and local businesses that make our city unique,” explains Mayor Scott Conger.

“Downtown is for everyone,” adds Beth Ann Simpson, director of Jackson Downtown Development Corporation (JDDC). “It’s an intersection of all our neighborhoods. It allows people to come together and be connected.”

While Jackson’s downtown district has experienced its fair share of ebbs and flows, Simpson points to today’s vibrant city center as a tangible reminder of what happens when government officials and community leaders have the vision and will to create a space that serves everyone. “It’s such an indicator of a healthy community,” she points out.

Reimagined & Revitalized

Simpson says development along Jackson Walk Plaza, including the LIFT Wellness Center by the Community Foundation of West Tennessee, helped jump-start the last decade of growth.

“That area really changed the landscape,” she notes. “I think what you’re seeing now is a new wave of entrepreneurs wanting to invest in the downtown core.”

Always home to vital city services and numerous offices, Simpson says the hustle and bustle of downtown now extends well past the workday with an influx of residential, retail, restaurant and entertainment options that enhance Jackson’s quality of life.

“Downtown creates a walkable experience,” Simpson says. “I think that allows for connectivity and community-building.”

A Creative Hub

Already a Main Street Community, Jackson’s downtown was named an Arts District in 2022. Performing arts take center stage at the Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center. The acclaimed Jackson Symphony performs at both The Ned and the nearby Carl Perkins Civic Center. And the city’s storied musical history is on full display at the Legends of Tennessee Music Museum at The Carnegie.

Havner’s Frame Shop and Art Gallery, the West Tennessee Farmers’ Market and colorful murals throughout downtown showcase the visual arts. And the Jackson Arts Council hosts numerous downtown events, including First Friday Art Walks, to spotlight the city’s creativity. Jackson also supports the next generation of makers by providing resources to help creative outlets thrive. Through their oversight of the Local – a micro-retail incubator for entrepreneurs, chefs and artisans – JDDC is helping young businesses and establishing a pipeline for continued growth.

Focusing on the Future

Georgia-Pacific’s new Dixie® manufacturing facility and Ford’s BlueOval City will bring more jobs and families to the area. A thriving downtown is a great place for new residents to connect to their neighbors.

“Downtown is the soul of our city, where the rhythm of our community’s energy beats the loudest,” concludes Mayor Conger. “A strong downtown is the life force that drives our city’s growth and resilience, and it is a testament to the vitality and promise of Jackson’s bright future.”
