The Best Donuts in the U.S. Might Be in Nashville, TN
Just when Music City thought it had it all, a bakery appeared that brought a new wave of treats to an already sweet food scene.
I am a firm believer that you should never trust a person who doesn’t like chocolate.
While I always keep my guard up around this type, they can still be tolerated in most social situations. But someone who turns their nose up at a donut? These are not my people. Joining me in taking down a dozen or so fresh donuts could be the best litmus test I have in knowing if I can be friends with someone. To prove this method has a high success rate, my bond with my two best friends was solidified over 20 years ago, when we each bought a dozen donuts and sat on the floor of my apartment to see who would be the first to finish their box in one sitting.
Nashville’s Real Foodie Scene Isn’t Where You Think It Is
Back in those days, my standards were low — any old drive-thru joint would hit the spot. My pallette was still in progress, and I had yet to sink my teeth into a donut that was meticulously crafted. Then Five Daughters Bakery came into my life; and lucky for me, one of their two Nashville area locations is only minutes from my house. If this isn’t a sign from the universe to eat more donuts, I don’t know what is.
I use this convenience on a regular basis, and as it turns out, Five Daughters’ donuts are the perfect solution to most situations. When life is complicated and I want to do some emotional eating, nothing soothes my mood like their Chocolate Sea Salt donut.
On those sunny mornings when I feel like celebrating for the heck of it, little else screams carpe diem like a decadent Blueberry Lemon Cream. And let’s not forget how impressive these donuts are for out-of-town guests. Walking my visitors into Five Daughters and placing a Vanilla Sugar (pictured below with cream) in their hand is certain to be the epic tale of their Nashville visit.
When in Music City, it’s fairly easy to get your hands on a treat from Five Daughters Bakery. With two freestanding locations, as well as various outposts around town, you won’t have to go far to find these perfectly balanced, airy donuts.
The 5 Best Burgers in Nashville
From the first time I walked into the simple and stylish shop, with its walls lined in crisp white subway tiles, and feasted my eyes on the counter topped with fresh baked creations — impossible to choose from — I knew I’d found more than a great place for donuts. It was clear I’d found my people.
