How to Help: Hurricane Helene Relief Resources
What makes a place livable?
We have spent more than a decade researching the answer to this question, and while priorities shift slightly year after year, our core tenets always center around a strong sense of community.
Our offices are proudly located in the Franklin, TN, area, and many of our friends and clients are in areas that have been directly impacted by Hurricane Helene. Over the last few days, we have been blown away by the incredibly moving acts of humanity, generosity and, most importantly, Southern hospitality.
One thing often overlooked on the national stage is the ferocity of the Southern spirit. At Livability, we highlight what makes cities nationwide unique and special. Our motto is “Find the good and praise it.” It’s easy to “find the good” in places like East Tennessee, Western North Carolina, Southwest Virginia, Florida and Georgia because they wear their hearts on their sleeves. These areas run on goodness and it can be seen in Hurricane Helene relief.
We believe in this region. We believe in the good of people. We believe in our communities and want to lend a hand to our neighbors in need.
In the wake of this tragedy, we see the good everywhere, from the high school teacher who jumped into action to rescue her neighbor, the man who hiked 11 miles to check on his parents and the mules delivering food, water and diapers to remote mountainous areas.
But, they need our help. We’ve compiled a list of ways to donate your time, money and resources to those most heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene.

- American Red Cross: You can donate online or by texting Helene to 90999.
- Salvation Army Disaster Relief: The Salvation Army Disaster Relief uses 100% of all disaster donations to support disaster relief and provide flood victims food, shelter and other emergency care.
- United Way: United Way assists in disaster-related evacuations, shelters, food/clothing distribution and other resources. Information about donating monetary contributions and local chapters can be found here.
- Operation Airdrop: Operation Airdrop delivers supplies, meals and support to those impacted by the storm.
- World Central Kitchen: This organization, created by José André, provides meals in response to humanitarian, climate and community crises. You can donate here.
- GoFundMe: GoFundMe’s Hurricane Relief Fund was created to “provide direct relief to people in need after a hurricane.”
- Save the Children: Save the Children has created the Children’s Emergency Fund, which aims to deliver child-focused supplies to families hardest hit by the storm, including diapers, baby wipes and classroom cleaning kits to schools.
