Lifetime of Care
Amy DeCicco, BSN, RNC-LRN, has deep roots with AdventHealth. “I actually started working at the (predecessor) hospital in 1989 as a candy-striper,” she recalls of volunteering as a teenager before becoming an aide while earning her nursing degree. Today, DeCicco is a neonatal resuscitation program instructor and certified patient educator working on behalf of newborns and their families.
She notes the health care system truly champions nurses throughout their journey. “AdventHealth supports change, growth and education to further your knowledge and career,” she says, adding opportunities range from in-house training and mentoring to financial assistance for degree programs.
An adjunct instructor for Daytona State College, DeCicco notes AdventHealth hires certified nursing assistants while still in school. The program allows students to gain much-needed experience to transition seamlessly to clinical work after graduation, while also creating a pipeline of well-trained nurses for the hospital.
“It’s a great place to work, and we have such a good team,” DeCicco adds. “It’s rewarding to go home and think, ‘Wow! I really made a difference.’”
Supportive Care
Veronika PeGee is a senior financial analyst with AdventHealth Daytona Beach. “I was always in finance but was never in health care finance,” she says of making the switch nearly five years ago.
“While doctors and nurses provide the lifesaving, hands-on care, we support that work. Without us, the doors to the hospital wouldn’t stay open,” PeGee says of the administrative side of health care. “That’s where I find solace in knowing we’re contributing to the care of the community and our faith-based mission.”
She cites AdventHealth’s positive culture and emphasis on personal and professional growth as key attractions. “They work to put you in a position to achieve your goals,” she says. “Faith is not something I have to check at the door when I come to work, so it enhances my work-life balance.”
While she might not have started in health care finance, PeGee believes she’s found the perfect fit at AdventHealth. “As a system, this is probably where I’ll retire. It truly feels like family.”
