For Errands: Promenade at Castle Rock is a one-stop shopping center for all your basics and features a wide variety of major chain stores. And that’s just the beginning: The development also boasts a wealth of fast-casual and sit-down eateries, several gyms, health care providers, and home-goods stores. 

For the Perfect Gift: Nestled in Castle Rock’s historic downtown, The Emporium works with 60 local merchants to offer an eclectic selection of housewares, art, body care, clothing and kids’ toys under one convenient roof. Just across the street, Castle Rock Collective combines a coffee shop and international market by selling delicious whole beans as well as beautifully handcrafted totes and bags from Guatemalan and Ethiopian artisans. Life At Home also sells candles, ornaments, jewelry and all things homey at a convenient central location. 

For Big-Name Brands: Outlets at Castle Rock is home to over 100 stores selling discounted national (and international) brands of all kinds. Happy shopping!

Prepare to Dine and Have Fun

For a Celebratory Dinner: Trestles Coastal Cuisine will make you forget you’re in a landlocked state with decadent entrees like lobster tails poached in Champagne butter. For another outstanding flavorful option, indulge in craft cocktails as well as bites that incorporate global flavors at Courtyard Social. 

For Live Music: Just a few miles west of downtown, the Philip S. Miller Park Amphitheater is surrounded by 300 acres of parkland, including 10 miles of trails, a playground, a recreation center and ziplines. The venue is the setting for summer concert series (past performers include Gin Blossoms, UB40 and Spin Doctors) and beer festivals. 

For Craft Coffee: In addition to Castle Rock Collective (see above), check out Omni Café for Asian-inspired flavors like black sesame and matcha in boba tea and coffee. Crowfoot Valley Coffee and Crow Bar is an eclectic spot that does double duty as a coffee shop in the a.m. and a local taproom in the p.m. Sleek downtown shop Coff33 welcomes remote workers and offers a conference room for rent when teams need to gather. Finally, Castle Rock’s Lost Coffee is the fifth outpost of a Colorado mini-chain, with other locations in Highlands Ranch, Aurora and Littleton. 

Head for the Great Outdoors

For a Dog Park: The town has a trio of dog parks to help Fido get his (off-leash) steps in. Douglas County maintains a 2-acre off-leash area on the southern side of town at Fairgrounds Regional Park, and Wiggly Field Dog Park, located on the northwest side of town, contains agility equipment. The Glendale Farm Open Space offers a 17-acre parcel of land for dogs to run wild. 

For a Hike: Castlewood Canyon State Park is a day-use park with 13 miles of combined trails that wind down canyon walls and along Cherry Creek. Hikers can also ascend to the mesa that dominates over the town and inspired its name via Rock Park Loop Trail, a relatively short (1.5 mile) but steep trail. Mitchell Creek Canyon Trail is a 1.5-mile offshoot of the paved Mitchell Creek Trail system, which connects to the Gateway Mesa Open Space. Pick it up in the Founders Village neighborhood.
