Christ Church Episcopal School Is Investing in Its Future

For nearly seven decades, Christ Church Episcopal School (CCES) in Greenville, SC, has been committed to preparing students with the knowledge, character and relationships they need to be strong, compassionate leaders in their communities. Now, with the launch of its Build for the Future campaign, the school is poised to expand and enhance the CCES experience for generations to come.
“We started comprehensive campus planning in 2021 and wanted to implement something that wasn’t just solving our needs of the moment, but that would serve our school and broader community for years to come,” says Head of School David Padilla.
New Sports Performance Building
The ambitious plan will be executed in phases, with a sports performance building as one of the first components. Totaling 56,000 square feet, the new structure will include a competition arena, double-court gym, strength and conditioning area, a training room, dedicated cheer and wrestling space, locker rooms for all in-season sports and an elevated indoor track.
“Sports are central to the holistic educational experience and where our students learn values of hard work, dedication and teamwork, so we want all of our students to have the opportunity to participate,” says Padilla. “This building will significantly enhance our athletics and wellness offerings.”
TIDE Building
The second component will be the TIDE Building, which will become the school’s academic cornerstone. The TIDE curriculum, which stands for Technology, Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship, began several years ago as part of the middle school curriculum, introducing students to design thinking and learning through empathy, inquiry, ideation, solution creation, prototyping and evaluation.
The new 22,000-square-foot building will expand the program to upper school students as well, with flexible classrooms, cross-divisional and cross-disciplinary instruction spaces, a designated robotics and engineering lab, and a monumental staircase for presentations and larger gatherings.
“We really took a look at what type of skills students need to know when they graduate,” Padilla says. “We’re teaching them how to work together, to think critically and to fail forward when an initial idea may not work.”
Padilla says this campaign would be nothing without the CCES community. “The anchor for all of this is the incredible leadership of our faculty, staff and administrative teams; the inspired vision of our Board of Trustees; and the generous investment of a host of CCES families and friends who want to ensure that CCES continues to provide exceptional experiences and opportunities for our current and future students.”
