Partnering with Mixxer Community Makerspace

That mindset led Cook Winston-Salem to partner with Mixxer Community Makerspace, a local organization that gives people of all ages access to tools, technology and mentorship. With Cook’s support, Mixxer launched a robotics program from the ground up, opening new opportunities for local youth and adults to learn, explore and grow. 

“Cook’s support gave us the confidence to make the 2025 monthly robotics meetups free and open to the public all year,” says Elaine Lamson, Mixxer executive director. “We recently hosted our first robotics competition, and the excitement in the room was incredible.” 

Next, the program will expand through G.I.R.L.S. (Girls in Robotics & Lifelong STEAM), encouraging more young women to explore science, technology and engineering. Cook employees will participate as mentors and volunteers, continuing a partnership that’s helping shape the next generation of creators and problem solvers. 

“These initiatives are vital to our community,” says Tamisha Clark, vice president and general manager of Cook Winston-Salem. “When young people grow and learn, our entire community becomes stronger. We hope our work with Mixxer not only makes an impact but inspires other companies to join us in creating opportunities.”

Building an Equitable, Connected Community

The Mixxer partnership is one of several ways Cook invests locally to build a more equitable, connected community. Collaborations with Crosby Scholars and Second Harvest Food Bank help students plan their futures and ensure families across the region have access to nutritious food. Through these efforts, Cook employees use their time, skills and compassion to strengthen the community they call home. 

For Cook, community engagement isn’t a program, it’s who they are. “Our community has been good to us and we have a responsibility to give back,” Clark says. “Doing good business and doing good in the community go hand in hand, and that’s what makes Cook who we are.”
