Instead of watching it all unfold on social media, let this be the year you experience the beauty for yourself. These six cities will be in full bloom soon, and they’re calling your name.

1. Cherry Blossoms in Washington, D.C.

Our nation’s capital is one of the most beautiful places to visit in springtime, as cherry blossom trees begin to bud across the city. 2. Azaleas in Mobile, Alabama

Did you know that Mobile, AL, is also known as “The Azalea City”? Ring in spring by planning a trip to see the warm season come to life in lower Alabama. From early March through mid-April is considered the best time to visit as the azaleas start showing off their vibrant pink, red, white and lavender hues.

3. Wildflowers in the Smokies

The Smoky Mountains, which stretch from Tennessee to North Carolina, are a famous destination for seeing the leaves change in the fall. However, the Great Smoky Mountain National Park is also known for its preservation of wildflowers. So much so that it’s commonly referred to as “Wildflower National Park.” This means you don’t have to wait until fall to appreciate the magical beauty of Southern Appalachia. Adventure seekers, pack your hiking shoes and hit the trails for a wildflower hike to see all the best views of spring wildflowers blooming in the Smokies.
If you want more than just a day hike or a weekend road trip, the park will host its 76th Annual Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage from April 22 to April 25, 2026. This is not just an event; it’s an experiential program featuring professionally guided walks and exhibits where you’ll learn more about the region and its preservation efforts.
4. Tulips in Albany and Upstate New York

Don’t sleep on Upstate New York, especially in the springtime. The state’s capital, Albany, is home to the Tulip Festival, where you can see 80 acres of bright bulbs in full bloom. This year’s event will take place May 9-10, 2026, and it celebrates the city’s Dutch heritage. You’ll be met with fine arts, good food and live entertainment. Sounds like the perfect way to welcome in the warmer days of spring and escape to a slice of tulip-filled paradise.
If you’re not a big fan of crowds but still want to venture Upstate to enjoy the biggest bloom of the season, you can plan your visit around peak bloom, which is late April to early May. The flowers are typically at their brightest the week before the festival, so you can skip the crowds and catch the first glimpse of spring at your own pace. To get the most out of your tulip trip, book one of the free tours offered around the historic Washington Park.
5. Bluebonnets in Texas Hill Country

When you think of springtime, does Texas come to mind? If not, this is a good time to start thinking about the Lone Star State as a destination to welcome in spring. An hour outside of San Antonio, in Fredericksburg, TX, bluebonnets paint the Texas Hill Country purple and blue from late March into April. The town is also home to Wildseed Farms, which is the country’s largest wildflower farm. While you’re there, be sure to venture outside of the little city and take yourself on a scenic drive through the Willow City Loop to see the state’s flower blooming in the wild.
Also located in the Texas Hill Country, Ennis is known as The Official Bluebonnet City of Texas, with more than 40 miles of driving trails to view prime bluebonnet spots. Plan a trip April 17-19, 2026 and catch their Bluebonnet Festival. Soak up more than just pretty wildflowers with three days of live music, delicious Texas food, shopping vendors and beautiful scenery.
6. Poppy Preserve in Antelope, California

If a trip to the California desert is on your travel bucket list, spring would be the best time to check it off. The western Mojave Desert is home to the Poppy Reserve, where wildflowers bloom in Antelope Valley come springtime. Mosaics of bright hues bloom alongside rolling hills, and it’s one of those sights you just have to see for yourself to understand how magical it is.
Peak blooms begin in mid-February and stretch through May, so you have plenty of time to catch the scene in full color. Along with immersing yourself in California’s breathtaking spring views, you can stroll along eight miles of gentle hiking trails and embrace Mother Nature as she shows off her wildflower beauty.
