Oxford’s Newest Water Resort: The Ultimate Family RV Destination In North Mississippi

Families who crave adventure often embrace the convenience and freedom that come with owning a recreational vehicle.

Traveling by RV gives any vacation a head start since the journey is part of the fun – whether heading to a wooded campsite, attending a music festival, or choosing an economical RV hookup over a pricey hotel at popular tourist destinations.

Founded by Neighbors

Jay Hughes and Andrew Ross are two former neighbors who connected over their enthusiasm for the RV experience. While both had seasoned professional careers, the opportunity to provide Oxford with its first park for RV travelers renewed long-held dreams, which the two men and their spouses soon parlayed into a business enterprise.

“My wife and I have thoroughly enjoyed traveling across the country in an RV for many years,” Hughes says. “In 2023, we reconnected with an old friend, Andrew, who is a dentist now but used to cut my grass when he was in high school. We shared about the joys of traveling in an RV and imagined what it would be like to have an RV resort around Oxford, where there weren’t any.”

Ross’ wife, Alison, also a dentist, says she was immediately attracted to the idea.

With his partner’s support, Hughes went “full steam” toward developing the park concept, collaborating with a design group that specializes in outdoor recreation. In just a few months, the investors had a solid plan, and by May 2024, ground was broken on the new facility.

An Elevated Experience

With its opening in April 2025, the park is equipped with 150 RV sites and 20 cottages and amenities galore, so that a stay at the Roundabout Oxford RV and Water Resort might easily qualify as “glamping,” a more glamorous form of camping that rivals a stay at a nice hotel.

“We wanted to offer more so our guests could truly feel like they are on vacation when they arrive,” Ross says.

Visitors can enjoy full hookups at all RV pads, spacious and clean bathhouses with laundry facilities, storm shelters, a large playground, sports courts, a mini golf course, a camp store, the Canteen restaurant, lakes and ponds, a dog park and wash station, golf cart rentals, an arcade and a community room with board games. Plus, a slate of water amenities includes a wade-in pool, water slides, a lazy river, splash pads, hot tubs, an adults-only pool and even a swim-up bar.

Some 90 seasonal employees provide support services, ensuring that everything runs smoothly.

Dreams to Reality

Roundabout Oxford RV and Water Resort got its name from the many traffic roundabouts in the city, Hughes explains.

“Our dream was to create a fun, safe place for families and friends to disconnect from the chaos of daily life so they could slow down and reconnect with each other,” Ross says.

As the dream became reality, guests arrived for the resort’s first season, driving across Mississippi and from several surrounding states – some from as far away as California.

The resort operated at overnight capacity for many weeks, yet the owners still set aside some room for day patrons who could enjoy the park without an overnight stay.

“It was a passion project for all four of us,” Hughes says of the endeavor. “Although we were on a learning curve, our relationships with the Chamber, Economic Development staff and elected officials became key to the success.”
