#85. Berkeley, CA
Along the San Francisco Bay’s eastern shore is Berkeley, home to the University of California – Berkeley and renowned as one of the most politically liberal cities in the country. The main thoroughfare is Shattuck Avenue that passes through several distinct neighborhoods, and Berkeley residents enjoy conveniences like multiple parks and an Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. An assortment of restaurants, shops and performance venues provide many things to do in Berkeley. Nearly 50 buildings within the community are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
