Although Oxford’s downtown is well worth a visit, it’s not the only place in the area that deserves your attention. Here’s a list of unique places in Oxford, Mississippi, for you to explore.

Sardis Lake and Holly Springs National Forest

Both Sardis Lake and Holly Springs National Forest are idyllic locations for outdoor enthusiasts to explore. Sardis Lake, located along the Tallahatchie River, boasts a sandy beach as well as a swimming pool, golf course and even a recreation hall, making it perfect for more laid-back visitors. Holly Springs National Forest, meanwhile, is made up of tall trees, small lakes and natural beauty all around. Whether camping, hiking or boating, this outdoor destination makes it easy to appreciate North Mississippi’s stunning scenery.

Taylor Grocery and Restaurant

With an unassuming exterior, Taylor Grocery & Restaurant is anything but once you get inside. Though it operated as a general store for many years, it’s primarily been an eatery since 1977. Known locally as “that catfish place,” Taylor Grocery serves up some of the best Southern-fried catfish you will ever eat, all to a backdrop of good music and excellent service. It’s a popular spot, and with a no-reservations policy, you might have to wait awhile to get a seat – but it’s worth the wait, and your taste buds will thank you kindly.

The Pharmhouse at Satterfield’s Pottery

This local ceramics store featuring handmade pottery has expanded its reach to the Pharmhouse, a renovated event venue next door to the gallery. And while the space can accommodate just about any event, it often hosts live music. This unique venue provides a homey atmosphere, with plenty of seating both inside and outside.

Little “q” Ranch

Located just outside of Oxford, this quail hunting preserve offers a truly unique hunting experience. Intended for serious hunters, the ranch is the ideal setting for traditional upland wing shooting – and thanks to the expert guides, you’re guaranteed to have a safe, successful experience. You will need to bring your own gear. You can also bring your own hunting dogs to help along the way!

Taylor Flower Patch

A hop, skip and a jump down the road from Oxford, you’ll find the most charming flower patch you ever did see. While the flowers are not U-pick, Taylor Flower Patch sells single stems and arrangements, all grown on-site and available for purchase. They also have a wildflower meadow for taking pictures in, not to mention a pumpkin patch in the fall for the whole family to enjoy. They’ve added blueberries and blackberries for public picking – another great activity for young families
