High Point has a long and profitable history in the furniture-making industry, and city officials have worked hard in recent years to diversify the local and regional economy. As a result, the following industries are doing well and prospering in High Point:

The city continues to enjoy its long history of quality furniture making and still has more than 40 retail furniture outlets today. Some of the larger companies are High Point Furniture Sales, Dynasty Furniture, Furniture City Outlet and Outlet at Furnitureland South.

The distribution and logistics sector is successful in High Point thanks largely to an excellent transportation system in place. Passing through High Point are Interstates 40, 74, 85 and 85 Business along with three U.S. Routes and four North Carolina Highways. The city is also privy to railroad carriers.

Students (and their parents) have access to a high-ranking Guilford County Schools system, and the city is home to three universities: High Point University, John Wesley University and South University.

One of the city’s largest industries, tourism attracts more than 100,000 visitors each year who enjoy High Point’s scenery, restaurants and specialty stores. The community also has more than 25 sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places, with many open for tours.

Health Care

Two of the city’s largest employers are linked to the health care industry. High Point Regional UNC Health Care employs more than 2,000 people in the community, and Cornerstone Health Care has a workforce of 1,000 employees.

A robust financial industry exists in High Point, with several banks enjoying success and growing customer bases. The largest banking employer in the city is Bank of America, which has more than 2,100 employees.

More than 250 manufacturing companies are doing brisk business in High Point. Some of the leading companies include Carolina Custom Booth, Carlton Manufacturing, Cox Manufacturing, Elite Manufacturing, Kushwood Manufacturing and Precision Design Machinery.
