Houston Plumbing & Heating Has Served Licking County for More Than 60 Years

Richard (Dick) and Patricia Houston established Houston Plumbing & Heating Inc. in Newark, Ohio, in 1963. Now, more than 60 years later, the company continues to operate as a family business, offering full-service plumbing and HVAC expertise. 

“My grandfather, Dick, passed away in 1985, and at that time, my father, Rick Houston, along with two of his sisters, Beverly Sue Dodson and Beth Cramer, ran the company and its day-to-day business,” says Stephanie Arcuri, treasurer at Houston Plumbing & Heating. 

As the second generation of family retired from the company, the third generation stepped up to continue its longevity in Licking County. 

“My brothers, Richard (Jason) Houston and Chase Houston, and I are excited to continue the legacy of our grandfather and want to remain very involved in the community we serve, giving back to it as much as we possibly can,” Arcuri says. “Dick Houston always gave to others when he was able to, and that is still at our core as a company.” 

As Arcuri explained, the future of the company depends on the employees who work there, as the Houston family depends on them to represent the company well and lead it into the future. 

“We consider all our employees like extended family members; I think that is what makes us unique,” Arcuri says. “We take a lot of pride in our work here at Houston’s. We want to be the very best in our field of services, and we also want our employees to feel satisfied working here, so they take pride in their day-to-day as well.” 

Giving back to others is also a core component of Houston Plumbing & Heating. The company has sponsored the construction of a few water wells in Ghana and other places in Africa. 

“We love the joy it brings to their people in their community over there,” Arcuri says. 

In addition, the company runs a “Heat For Our Heroes” program, providing local veterans, active military members and surviving spouses with free labor and material to install a new furnace and help keep them warm during the cold winters. Houston Plumbing & Heating partners with their York distributor and Hanover American Legion Post 764 to make this happen. 

“Community, for us, is what it is all about,” Arcuri says.
