There is no reason to go chasing waterfalls around Johnson City, Tennessee. Several of these beautiful wonders are easy to find, if you are willing to go on a little hike. Here are three waterfalls near Johnson City, TN, you’ll want to explore.

1. Blue Hole Falls

This series of four waterfalls about 11 miles northeast of Elizabethton can be reached via a half-mile, lightly trafficked loop trail not far from Highway 91. The name comes from the deep blue pool AND swimming hole in front of the main fall.

2. Laurel Fork Falls

It takes a little more work to reach this 55-foot-high waterfall on Laurel Fork Creek, but the 2.5-mile hike is well worth the effort. Located just off Highway 321 approximately 20 miles east of Johnson City, the picturesque waterfall is surrounded by equally scenic rhododendron forests.

3. Sill Branch Falls

A half-mile hike leads to this 20-foot waterfall within the Cherokee National Forest near the town of Erwin, about 15 miles southwest of Johnson City. Though the hike is relatively short, the trail is rocky with a few steep inclines.
