Deciding where to go and what fun things to do in Robertson County may seem daunting, with its 11 (yes, 11!) communities each having its own charm and attractions.

So, here’s an agenda to help visitors, newcomers and even longtime residents experience the best Robertson County has to offer – scenic trails, rich agricultural roots and some good ole down-home country cooking.

Rise and Shine

A morning workout in Robertson County couldn’t be more scenic: Skip the gym and enjoy the fresh air, thanks to the region’s many spaces for outdoor recreation.

Ridgetop Station Park offers a quiet, 0.6-mile trail for bikers and runners that winds through the park’s arboretum and orchards. For longer jaunts, check out the Springfield Greenway, a 4-mile creekside trail connecting Garner Street Park and J. Travis Price Park, or the shady 7-mile greenway in nearby White House. (All trails are paved, making them ideal for running, biking or just a leisurely stroll.)

And if Fido needs a workout as well, stop by Central Bark Dog Park in Springfield’s Garner Street Park, where pooches can zip about safely inside the wide-open fenced space.

After the blood gets pumping, caffeine might not seem the most pressing need, but it would be a shame to miss the beverages and bites at the area’s delicious coffee shops. Try the Sunflower, a coffee concoction with vanilla, honey and cinnamon, along with a softball-sized cinnamon roll at Golly G’s Coffee, Ice Cream & Sweets in Greenbrier, a matcha latte and wild berry waffle at Deja Moo Creamery & Coffee Co., which has locations in both White House and Springfield, or Historic Perk’s honey-and-lavender Harvest Bloom Latte with avocado toast in downtown Springfield.

Now you’re ready to embark on your day filled with fun things to do in Robertson County!

Your Midday Mission

With so many locally owned farms raising everything from cows and hogs to pumpkins and pansies, visitors will definitely want to hit up some of the farms nearby for a real taste of the area’s agricultural roots. There’s the Shade Tree Farm and Orchard in Adams, a 41-year-old operation that raises cattle and harvests fruit from around 500 fruit trees each year and also offers its own line of jams and jellies, salsas, sauces, and preserves.

Coopertown’s Honeysuckle Hill Farm evokes a farm-themed amusement park, with a carousel, treehouse village, bungee-cord trampolines, climbing wall and mechanical bull alongside pick-your-own flower and pumpkin patches.

Bernard Farms Custom Cuts and Market is a true local farm store. The Orlinda outfit raises its own hogs and cattle and stocks its cute, quaint shop with sausage, bacon and whole pork cuts, freshly baked goods like biscuits and pies and a smattering of home decor. And in Cedar Hill, Head’s Farm is known for its delicious strawberries (buy them already harvested or pick them yourself) as well as homemade seasonal ice cream.

After an afternoon spent stocking up on local fare, Thomas Drugs in Cross Plains is worth a visit. The business has been serving the community since the early 1900s and is located inside a historic building dating to 1915. In addition to meeting all its customers’ medicinal and immunization needs, the shop features an old-timey soda fountain where visitors can sample treats from a bygone era, like egg creams and phosphate sodas.

And visitors on a Saturday night can take in the weekly stock-car races at the Veteran’s Motorplex at the Rim in Greenbrier from April to November.

Supper in Springfield

For dinner, downtown Springfield is the place to be, with friendly, casual spots serving crowd-pleasing entrees. The Depot Bar & Grill, located in a historic building on Main Street, offers hearty steaks, burgers and pasta with fun touches like fried green tomatoes and duck breast quesadillas. Meanwhile, Willie Mae’s BBQ offers pork, brisket, bologna, ribs, chicken and more – all smoked over hickory – in a rustic dining room that recalls old-school barbecue joints.

Willie Mae’s menu is also a throwback, ignoring fancy food in favor of longtime barbecue tradition: All its meats can be ordered on a sandwich, a platter with sides or by the pound. Don’t forget to finish off the meal with a slice of chocolate-peanut butter pie.

BS Brew Works, the county’s only brewery and taproom, is a relative newcomer. Founded in 2019, it serves a rotating list of suds, plus bar fare like wings, elaborate loaded nachos, pretzels and the two best kinds of cheese (pimiento and beer).

While Robertson County offers an attractive place to live and work, it’s also a place where you can create memories with the people you love most. Here are a few date night ideas to consider:

Grab a pre-dinner drink at BS Brew Works, a Springfield taproom on Main Street that became Robertson County’s first craft brewery in 2019. Then, walk next door and try the dining experience at Depot Bar & Grill, a restaurant where all soups, salads, pasta sauces and dressings are prepared in their kitchen from original recipes.

Book a staycation at Kelly’s Jubilee, which has a Romantic Celebrate Love Package for couples as well as Airbnb choices for the entire family.

Do something active together, either by visiting 504 Climb or playing golf at places like The Legacy Golf Course or Pebble Brook Golf Course.

Stock your picnic basket with fun food items from Bryant’s Country Store. Then, find a scenic spot to lay your blanket at parks like Martin Luther King Jr. and J. Travis Price Park in Springfield; Ridgetop Station Park in Ridgetop; and White House Municipal Park in White House. During the summer, dance or toe-tap to the music at the annual free concert series at J. Travis Price Park.

Enjoy great live music along with food and craft vendors at the 1st Friday Night Market, which runs from May through October on the historic Springfield Courthouse Square.
