The Oak Ridge Chamber of Commerce offers regular programming designed to help local businesses build lasting relationships and overcome shared challenges.

1. Small Business Networking Roundtable

• When: Second Thursday of each month
• Format: In-person at featured local businesses

This monthly roundtable event allows small business owners and local entrepreneurs to introduce themselves, share their services, and discuss common obstacles.

“It’s a great group because you’re talking with other business owners who deal with a similar set of obstacles and can relate,” says Bennett.

2. Coffee & Commerce

• When: First Tuesday of each month at 8:00 a.m.
• Format: In-person (Exclusive to Chamber members)

Start your workday by building connections over coffee. This early-morning event features insight from a guest speaker and gives host locations an excellent opportunity to showcase their business to attendees.

“Having something before work is incredibly valuable to me,” Hernández-Bell shares. “There’s always good attendance and it gives me the opportunity to touch base with our partner agencies and check in. It’s hosted in different places, so I’ve learned a lot about new businesses that I wouldn’t have otherwise.”

3. Business After Hours

• When: Quarterly (After work)
• Format: Informal, in-person gathering

If you prefer a more relaxed environment, this quarterly evening event is the perfect fit. Hosted by various businesses around town, it features refreshments, door prizes, and a casual atmosphere. Members are highly encouraged to bring a guest.

“I always try to attend because you’re getting a different, more relaxed version of people in a casual environment where you can feel more comfortable talking about a range of things,” Bennett notes. “There’s usually an activity and it’s a fun way for professionals to network and get to know each other without the typical stuffy professional environment.”

Regional & Specialized Business Networking

Beyond standard Chamber events, Oak Ridge professionals can access specialized virtual meetings and massive regional gatherings across East Tennessee.

4. Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Small Business Fridays

• When: Monthly
• Format: Virtual meeting

Looking to do business with the Department of Energy or major research institutions? This monthly virtual session provides critical guidance for small businesses. It offers specialized support for:

• Women-owned businesses
• HUBZone companies

5. Annual Regional Networking Event

This massive collaborative event draws roughly 400 professionals from across East Tennessee. It is co-hosted by the chambers of commerce for Oak Ridge, Anderson County, Farragut/West Knox, Loudon County, Monroe County, Blount County, and the Roane Chamber/Roane Alliance.

“Having one larger event a year that broadens the number of people who will be there and crosses regionally is great,” says Hernández-Bell. “We may be working with a business that is on the other side of the county that I don’t get to engage with as frequently, so it really is a valuable event.”

East Tennessee Economic Council (ETEC) Meetings

The East Tennessee Economic Council provides excellent weekly and evening platforms for mentorship and professional development.

6. After Work with ETEC

• When: Early evening (Periodic)
• Format: In-person social

Designed to bridge the gap between emerging and established professionals, this event fosters a welcoming environment for mentoring, relationship building, and strategic networking. Snacks and drinks are provided, and guests are welcome.

7. Friday Meetings with ETEC

• When: Most Friday mornings
• Format: Hybrid (In-person at the UT Outreach Center & via Zoom)
