Brightline West Could Transform High Desert Travel

Brightline West could reshape how people travel between Southern California and Las Vegas. The 218-mile, all-electric rail line will largely follow the Interstate 15 corridor, carrying passengers between Las Vegas and Rancho Cucamonga at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour. The trip is expected to take about two hours, roughly half the driving time. 

For Victor Valley residents, the project promises more than a faster route to Las Vegas. Stations planned in Apple Valley and Hesperia will connect the High Desert to Rancho Cucamonga, where passengers can transfer to Metrolink for travel into Los Angeles and other Southern California communities. The Hesperia station is also expected to provide select weekday commuter service, creating another option for residents who travel down the hill. 

The rail line could ease pressure on one of the region’s most congested corridors. Nearly 50 million trips are made annually between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and more than 85% are by car. Brightline West expects to serve 9 million one-way passengers each year, potentially reducing vehicle miles traveled by more than 500 million annually. 

The investment could also reshape development in the High Desert. Brightline West projects more than $10 billion in economic impact, 35,000 construction jobs and hundreds of permanent positions. New visitors, workers and businesses could follow the stations, creating opportunities for hospitality, retail and housing. 

For the Victor Valley, high-speed rail represents more than transportation. It could strengthen the region’s role as a connected destination rather than simply a place travelers pass through.
