#9. Salt Lake City UT
Why It’s Great for Techies:
This up-and-coming tech destination, dramatically framed by the Wasatch Mountains, is home to the University of Utah’s Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute, which provides a hands-on platform for college entrepreneurs to get their startups off the ground. Though it’s not a skyscraper-filled metropolis, this capital city houses a plethora of resources for young techies, including co-working spaces and startup competitions. The area has become such a tech hotspot that an organization called Silicon Slopes has emerged to connect, empower and promote the tech scene in SLC and beyond.
What Sets It Apart:
Salt Lake City has made the list of Livability’s Top 100 Places to Live three years running, and it’s easy to see why. From downtown Salt Lake City, it’s a short drive to ski resorts, hiking trails, mountains, deserts, rivers, lakes and any other outdoor adventure you can think of. In addition, the city’s burgeoning arts scene and wide array of top-tier restaurants rival the selections of much bigger cities.
