iHub SJ is one of 13 Accelerate California Inclusive Innovation Hubs advancing innovation, entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth. In San Joaquin County, iHub SJ’s work focuses on health care, agribusiness, sustainable construction and climate-resilient solutions – sectors with the potential to transform the local economy while addressing pressing needs. 

Based in Stockton, iHub San Joaquin brings together leaders across industry, academia, government and community organizations. By bridging the public and private spheres of economic development, iHub SJ ensures new ideas translate into meaningful opportunities for local businesses and residents alike. 

Strategic Partnerships

Powerful collaborations are the core of iHub San Joaquin’s success. Its diverse board guides an inclusive strategy drawing on wide-ranging expertise and resources. The result is a dynamic ecosystem where innovation thrives and regional challenges are met with community-based solutions. 

This collaborative spirit comes to life through iHub SJ’s signature initiatives, including the Accelerate California grant program. By working with technical assistance providers, iHub SJ has helped hundreds of local entrepreneurs and small businesses expand their capacity to compete in emerging markets.

A standout example, Open Innovation Centers (OIC) has trained more than 100 San Joaquin entrepreneurs on the ethical and practical use of artificial intelligence. Through its AI Learning Lab in Lodi, OIC is increasing its impact in the region. 

“Our partnership with iHub has allowed us to expand access to AI education and level the playing field for small businesses,” says Clare Bhakta, founder and executive director of Open Innovation Centers. 

The impact of iHub SJ’s partner network extends to workforce development. The Port of Stockton – an iHub SJ board member – joined forces with the Green Economy Lab and Community Technology Initiative to launch training on electric forklift maintenance. 

Led by Wiggins Lift, the program gave port staff hands-on skills to service zero-emission cargo-handling equipment – an important step toward building the region’s clean-energy workforce. 

“Through partnerships across the iHub San Joaquin network, the Green Economy Lab is driving innovative training programs that connect residents to quality jobs in the clean economy,” says Sandy Paben, founder of Green Economy Lab. 

Signature Events

iHub SJ also inspires innovation through its marquee events showcasing the region’s entrepreneurial spirit. 

The annual H2O Hackathon invites students from across San Joaquin County to “Hack the Tap.” Teams compete for cash prizes by developing apps, code and multimedia campaigns promoting water conservation to tackle one of California’s most urgent challenges while fostering creativity and technical skills. 

Additionally, the Innovation Summit convenes entrepreneurs, industry experts and regional leaders for a day of networking and collaboration. Panels highlight renewable energy, climate innovation, the bioeconomy and funding strategies. The summit serves as a launchpad for new ideas and partnerships, while advancing the vision of a thriving, sustainable green economy in the Central Valley.
