For residents of the Muskegon Lakeshore region, being connected to the community is just as important as being connected to the rest of the world.
The region offers a number of organizations and nonprofits that focus on involvement, inclusivity and giving back to the community.
The Muskegon Young Black Professionals is an organization helping improve the lives of young Black professionals and entrepreneurs by providing a safe, encouraging and educational space to network and attend events, and for other professional development opportunities.
A Place Where You Can Shine
There is also the Muskegon STAR! Program, which offers critical tools and the chance to learn and improve skills to those working in any version of customer service.
The mission of the STAR! Program is to better the overall experiences of tourists, guests, friends and fellow employees in the Muskegon Lakeshore region and ultimately increase tourism, residency, and business investments. It is a one-time class that results in a special certification for those who pass.
Additionally, JCI Greater Muskegon is a chapter of the Junior Chamber International, a nonprofit that encourages its members – young, active citizens aged 21 to 40 – to make positive impacts in their communities.
Those impacts stem from individuals learning key leadership and managerial skills by running projects that benefit their respective communities, including anything from hosting events for the public to seeing a fundraiser through from beginning to end.
