Maury Regional Health Is Bringing Care Closer to Home

For decades, Maury Regional Health has provided advanced, specialized care for southern Middle Tennessee while continuing to grow alongside the communities it serves. Now, amid the largest expansion in its history, Maury Regional Health is investing $115 million to expand access, modernize facilities and meet rising demand across the region. The project — the health system’s first major facility investment in nearly 20 years that launched in 2023 — reflects both the rapid growth of the region and the increasing complexity of health care needs. Expected to continue through 2027, the expansion is already reshaping how care is delivered by enhancing capacity, advancing technology and creating a more modern, accessible and healing environment for patients and families across southern Middle Tennessee.

Maury County is one of the fastest-growing counties in Tennessee, with Maury Regional’s primary service area projected to grow 6.1% to more than 255,000 residents by 2028. As that population grows and ages, demand rises not only for more care, but for advanced specialization delivered closer to home.

“Our expansion is both a reactive and proactive response to the extraordinary growth taking place across southern Middle Tennessee and our responsibility to ensure this region continues to have access to high-quality, advanced care close to home,” says Maury Regional Health CEO, Martin Chaney, MD. “As our region grows and health care needs become more complex, we are investing in expanded capacity, modernized facilities and advanced technology to support the future of care delivery. These projects reflect our long-term commitment to strengthening the health of the communities we serve for generations to come.”

Building a Modern Hub

For patients across the region, the changes are already tangible. In June 2025, Maury Regional opened a new Breast Center that’s accredited as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology. The facility expands access to 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, breast biopsy and bone densitometry in one dedicated space.

A new retail pharmacy followed in March 2026 at the Maury Regional Medical Plaza, bringing prescription services closer to where patients already receive care.

In May 2026, Maury Regional opened its Orthopedic Surgical Institute – a 34,000-square-foot modern outpatient destination designed to expand access to advanced orthopedic care across southern Middle Tennessee. Equipped with four state-of-the-art operating rooms and advanced technology including the Mako robotic-assisted platform for knee and hip replacement procedures, the institute enhances surgical capacity and supports a broad range of orthopedic, spine, sports medicine and pain management services focused on improving outcomes and recovery.

Additional improvements have included renovated urology and gastroenterology spaces, enhancements to the Mother/Baby Unit and upgrades to physical therapy services near the Medical Plaza.

The goal behind each addition is the same.

“Our recent expansions are designed to bring high-quality care directly to our neighbors, eliminating the need for extensive travel to metropolitan areas,” says Deborah Lumpkins, chief operating officer.

Managing that growth while keeping a full-service hospital running has demanded careful planning. Rather than slowing services, the system has phased in projects while continuing daily operations.

Current and upcoming projects include a major Emergency Department expansion – growing capacity to 48 treatment areas and adding a new behavioral health unit – along with a Heart Center expansion, enhanced endoscopy areas, a reimagined main entrance, and more than 180 additional parking spaces. These upgrades are designed to improve access, ease patient flow and create a more seamless experience for patients and families navigating care.

Investing in the Future

Beyond the buildings, Maury Regional is also making a long-term bet on people. On July 1, the health system welcomed its first class of internal medicine residents through a new graduate medical education program launched in partnership with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

The milestone marks Maury Regional’s emergence as a medical center with an academic mission, building on a foundation already in place. Maury Regional currently hosts nearly 600 medical learners across its hospitals and clinics each year.

The residency adds a formal physician training pipeline designed to keep talented doctors connected to this region long after their training ends.

That physician pipeline, leaders say, is as much an economic investment as a medical one, strengthening Maury Regional’s role as a driver of long-term regional growth. It all points toward the same goal.
