Bowie Nature Park
Before her death in 1992, Dr. Evangeline Bowie graciously deeded 722 acres to the city of Fairview, which has been placed into a trust to protect it from development. Today, Bowie Nature Park is a protected habitat for birds, deer and a variety of wildlife. The park includes a large frontier-themed children's play area called the Treehouse Playground, a 17-mile network of trails for mountain biking and horseback riding. (Users are asked to pay $2 to use the trails.) There are also fishing ponds and a nature center, which includes a museum and classroom space. Picnic shelters and an outdoor classroom may be rented by the day or half day.
