Robertson County’s New Director of Schools Brings Experience and Vision to the District

Danny Weeks

Dr. Danny Weeks has been director of schools for Robertson County for a little over a year, but he is no stranger to the district or the region. 

A Greenbrier native, Weeks attended Robertson County schools, and after graduation from Austin Peay State and Tennessee State universities, he spent 27 years as an educator with the district before taking on the role of superintendent in Dickson County. Weeks says he is excited to be “home” and eager to serve the community he holds dear. He speaks about his goals for the district and what makes Robertson County a great place to live, work – and get a great education. 

What advantages do Robertson County Schools offer students and their families? 

Robertson County Schools offers a wide array of academic, athletic and fine arts programs as well as clubs and organizations, which allow students to explore and excel. Our student services and operational departments are all based on the ideology of removing any barriers that would prevent students from reaching their goals. 

How does the school district prepare students for local, in-demand careers? 

Our challenge and goal is to provide opportunities for each student to be successful in their chosen field – whether it be college, workforce, technical training or otherwise. One of our goals at the district office is to reduce variability between opportunities that our students receive as compared to surrounding school systems. We know that our students will be competing for scholarships, jobs and positions with students from around the state and across the nation. We desire for them to be adequately prepared. 

What are some of your short-term and long-term goals for the district? 

On a short-term basis, we are focusing on the climate and culture of each building by refining relationships, respecting traditions and highlighting excellence. We are also focusing on teaching and learning to raise expectations, re-establish foundations and remove barriers. On a more long-term basis, we want our system to be recognized for excellence by ranking in the top 20% of the state in all metrics. 

You’re a long-time educator – what motivates you to continue this work? 

I believe the educational profession is a service and a ministry. I am exceptionally honored that our board has chosen me to lead the community in which I live. I am fully committed to public education and believe in the power that education has to change families’ lives. 

As an educator and a native, what makes this region a great place to live and raise a family? 

Robertson County is a great place to raise a family. Though it is often considered a rural community, we are one of the largest school systems and have the power to leverage that size. Furthermore, the proximity to both rural and metropolitan resources provides an advantage to our staff and students.
