6 Fun Things To Do in Casper, WY, With Kids

From educational museums to music venues, public parks to camping spots, you’ll find a variety of fun things to do in Casper, WY, with kids.

Jonathan Boudreaux, Gas Operations Manager for Black Hills Energy and a Texas transplant to Casper, shares some of his family’s favorites.

1. Explore Casper Mountain

One of the area’s most notable landmarks, Casper Mountain is a multi-use space that features 50-plus miles of hiking, camping, biking, equestrian and snowshoe/ski trails. The destination includes Rotary Park and Garden Creek Falls as well as the Hogadon Basin Ski Area. Crimson Dawn, home of folk artist Neal Forsling and the Midsummer’s Eve, is also located here.

“Casper Mountain is a wonderful spot. We take the kids sledding, and we want to start skiing and summer camping,” Boudreaux says.

2. Set Up Camp

Casper offers a diverse range of camping experiences and camping is definitely something to include on your list of things to do in Casper, WY, with kids. Alcova Reservoir provides lakeside camping, while Elkhorn Springs Campground is nestled in a scenic canyon. Bear Trap County Park provides a tranquil setting with essential amenities for a more traditional camping experience. But, if you’re looking for more comfort, Rivers Edge RV and Cabins Resort offers a wide range of services and accommodation options.

3. Get Cultured at Local Museums 

Casper is a treasure trove of history, art, and culture, and the best part is, it’s incredibly affordable to explore. 

For example, dive into the Wild West at the Fort Caspar Museum, and trace the paths of pioneers and Native Americans at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center.  

Art lovers can find inspiration at The Nicolaysen Art Museum. Or, for  a closer look into the natural world, check out Werner Wildlife Museum and the Tate Geological Museum at Casper College. 

“We’ve enjoyed visiting Fort Caspar and seeing the mammoth at the Tate Museum,” Boudreaux says. 

4. Be Entertained at David Street Station 

David Street Station, an entertainment destination with a splash pad and a farmers market, also hosts numerous events like holiday festivals, live music and outdoor movie nights.  

“We love live music and have been to a few concerts there,” Boudreaux says. “It’s an awesome space and  has a great atmosphere.”

5. Cool Off at Public Recreational Facilities 

Casper’s public recreational facilities, like the Casper Family Aquatic Center and Casper Ice Arena, offer affordable ways to stay active. The aquatic center has both indoor and outdoor pools with water slides and lap pools. The Casper Ice Arena hosts Cheap Skate, which includes admission and skate rental for $6.

6. Choose Your Adventure 

The Old Town Family Fun activity center is packed with excitement for the whole family. Choose from mini golf, arcade games, rock climbing or laser tag. With so much variety, everyone’s sure to find their perfect activity — and most are under $10 per player.

“It’s a great place,” Boudreaux says.  “I held a Rotary Club event there so members could bring their kids, and everyone had a great time.”
