Regional Leader in Health Care

Located in Idaho Falls, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) is the region’s largest medical facility, with 304 licensed beds. The medical center serves southeast Idaho, western Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park and southern Montana. 

EIRMC houses a Level II trauma center, a Level I intensive care unit (one of two in Idaho) and the only burn center in the Gem State. Patients also will find a comprehensive stroke center and heart center, annually performing more than 5,000 cardiac procedures. 

For children and infants, the facility offers a Level III neonatal ICU capable of caring for babies born as early as 22 weeks and the region’s only pediatric ICU. A 74-bed behavioral health center offers inpatient and outpatient mental health care for adolescents and adults. 

The Idaho Cancer Center at EIRMC provides extensive diagnostic tests and treatments for the disease.

Often, the emergency department is needed when visitors are injured at nearby national parks and natural areas. The hospital regularly works in tandem with Air Idaho Rescue, based at the hospital. Recently, both played an important role when seconds counted. 

Denver resident Debbie Crawley, returning home from a motorcycle trip, was struck head-on by a drunk driver in Togwotee Pass located in a remote area in northwestern Wyoming. Crawley suffered multiple broken bones, massive blood loss and a severed foot. 

Air Idaho Rescue transported her to EIRMC and a waiting trauma team. Crawley was hospitalized for 37 days at EIRMC, 23 in the ICU, and her life was saved by the hospital’s excellent health care providers. 

“I can’t thank them enough for doing what they do every day. There aren’t enough thank-yous in the world for that,” Crawley says. 

Care for All in Eastern Idaho

A healthy population is vital to a thriving community, and Health West, a federally funded nonprofit health center, ensures everyone has access to quality and affordable health care. The facility has 12 area locations, including the remodeled Chubbuck site that has added a new pharmacy for patient convenience. 

Specialized OB-GYN and pediatric care are available in Pocatello at the South 11th Avenue clinic.
