Nampa, Idaho, Residents Have Access to Excellent Health Care

St. Luke’s Nampa Medical Center, Saint Alphonsus Medical Center and Terry Reilly Health Services provide a full spectrum of health care services to the people of Nampa, Idaho, and Canyon County. The littlest patients — and their parents and families — will find ample options for both routine and specialty care, close to home. 

Meeting Patients Wherever They Are 

St. Luke’s Nampa Medical Center is a full-service, 87-bed hospital offering an equipped emergency department, family suites for new mothers and their babies, a newborn intensive care unit, children’s services with outpatient subspecialists, additional heart and orthopedics services, and an intensive care unit. The campus also includes a wide range of primary and specialty physician clinics, screening mammography, lab services and medical imaging. 

“The Nampa hospital demonstrates our commitment to the city of Nampa and the growing population of Canyon County,” says Misty Robertson, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer of St. Luke’s Nampa. “Over the next months and years, our list of services based in Nampa will continue to grow.” 

This includes two new clinics St. Luke’s Nampa will open in 2025. Robertson says St. Luke’s Urgent Care: Nampa and St. Luke’s Clinic– Obstetrics and Gynecology: Nampa will provide much-needed services to Canyon County. 

For pediatric patients, St. Luke’s Nampa offers a range of services. 

“As children grow and develop, their needs are changing as well,” Robertson says. “The St. Luke’s Pediatrics team is dedicated to building a relationship with your family to best support your child’s needs. Our pediatricians specialize in the needs of infants, children and adolescents, and perform sports physicals for young athletes.” 

The hospital also offers several specialty services for children and adolescents. St. Luke’s Children’s Center for Neurobehavioral Medicine: Nampa treats an array of mental health issues in an outpatient clinical setting. “Our team provides compassionate expertise during times of instability, specializing in the treatment of childhood behavioral and mental health disorders to optimize wellness and functioning,” Robertson says. 

“Our expert team at St. Luke’s Children’s Cardiology: Nampa specializes in treatment and consultative services for children and adolescents from birth to 18 years old with cardiovascular disease or cardiac-related signs or symptoms,” she says. 

St. Luke’s Nampa also operates the Children’s Mobile Care Clinic, a state-of-the-art, retrofitted vehicle designed to bring primary care services directly to children in schools. The mobile clinic visits elementary schools, middle schools and high schools in the Treasure of services from pediatric care and vaccinations to education for parents and families. In addition to primary care medical services, the mobile clinic also has a unique partnership with the St. Luke’s CARES team, which provides care for victims of sexual abuse. 

Offering Comprehensive Faith-Based Care 

As one of the region’s leading health care providers, Saint Alphonsus Medical Center offers comprehensive family health services for all ages. This care includes newborn, infant, toddler, child and adolescent care, as well as women’s health, men’s health and geriatric care.

Dr. John Freeman, a board-certified physician in internal medicine and pediatrics, practices at Saint Alphonsus 12th Avenue Family Medicine in Nampa. He says primary pediatrics care is important and includes well-child visits, immunizations, nutritional guidance and discussions with parents about developmental milestones. 

“We also provide anticipatory guidance for parents who are working to correct discipline, identify healthy screen-time habits, provide encouragement to their children, and identify how best to function as a family,” Freeman says. “This can include general health services that provide recommendations for improved diet and exercise, school performance and social interactions, as well as offering up next steps if further tests or screenings may be needed. This could include treating individuals with ADHD, anxiety and depression, and directing families to the correct specialist to navigate issues related to behavior or autism.” 

Freeman says Saint Alphonsus also offers specialty services, including pediatric gastroenterology to treat children with conditions such as constipation, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis or absorption issues. “We also offer a pediatric ear, nose and throat specialty,” he says. “Dr. Marshall Snow and Dr. Jason Ellison are both strong specialty providers.”

Meeting the Needs of the Treasure Valley

Most of us take it for granted – the ability to call a doctor when we’re sick, fill a prescription or get our teeth cleaned. But for thousands of people in the Treasure Valley, these basic acts of health care once felt out of reach. 

That gap is what Terry Reilly Health Services was founded to address and what continues to guide the organization’s work today. “Our community board leadership and staff have worked really hard to make sure that the work we do today continues to reflect the mission that started the organization 55 years ago,” says Heidi Hart, CEO.

What began as a small effort to serve migrant and underserved populations has grown into a comprehensive health system serving tens of thousands of patients across the Treasure Valley. 

While the community has changed, many of the challenges patients face have not. To help address those challenges, Terry Reilly has centered its services around convenience and support. As a federally qualified health center, Terry Reilly also offers practical tools that help make care affordable, including on-site pharmacies, a sliding-fee scale based on income and acceptance of all insurance. “I get to see anybody that comes in the door regardless of their insurance status,” Staller says. 

For local employers and civic leaders, Terry Reilly’s expansive role extends beyond individual appointments. The organization serves many of the people who keep Nampa’s thriving economy moving. 

“Most of our patients are the workers in the community,” Hart says. “If we do that, it means they show up for work and school, they have reduced absenteeism and they’re able to be more productive in their jobs as students, volunteers and church members – wherever they’re contributing to the community.”  

As the Treasure Valley grows and the population ages, Terry Reilly is planning for the next chapter of community health care. A major focus is helping people remain independent as they grow older. “We’re about thinking how to keep health care accessible so people can ‘age in place’ and live independently at home,” Hart says. 

Strategies include keeping vital services close to where people live, expanding telehealth options and reducing transportation barriers with home visits and delivery of medications.

“We see people in the most vulnerable of times through health and sickness, beginning of life to the end,” she says. “It’s my hope that when they walk through our doors or interact with our team, they feel safe and confident in our ability to care for them and that we can be trusted to respectfully meet their needs.”
