UPDATE: Check out our new 2023 Best Cities to Live in the U.S. list.

#4. Providence

The Movie: “Dumb and Dumber”

The Setting: Providence, Rhode Island (and Aspen, Colorado)

Where It Was Actually Filmed: Largely Breckenridge, Colorado, with a few establishing shots in Providence

Why you should visit: Far from being dumb (or dumber), Providence is actually home to both the Ivy League Brown University, and the acclaimed RISD (Rhode Island School of Design). Perched on the picture-perfect Narragansett Bay, the city is a haven for lovers of history, architecture and art. And somehow, Harry and Lloyd.

Don’t miss this iconic spot: During warmer months, stroll along the downtown riverfront to see WaterFire, a stretch of 80 mid-river bonfires serving as a picturesque median for water traffic.

Instagram moment: Bug your friends to visit the Big Blue Bug giant termite sculpture, one of the few actual Providence icons featured in the film. It’s a perfectly ‘grammable, perfectly dumb tribute to “Dumb and Dumber.” And just to be clear, like Aspen, it is NOT located in California.
