Muskegon Health Care Services Are Growing

There’s a high-tide of health care expansions in the Muskegon Lakeshore region and that is great news for area residents who can now access top-notch specialty services, from diagnosis to treatment, close to home.

The region’s providers offer the latest in technology, new facilities, highly skilled caregivers and, most importantly, individualized care for pediatric to geriatric patients.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

Orthopaedic Associates of Muskegon (OAM) is home to a highly experienced and dedicated team providing surgical and nonsurgical orthopedic treatments, physical medicine, ongoing research and rehabilitation services to the West Michigan community.

A recent milestone was the successful completion of 5,000 total joint replacement procedures using the Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery System, placing the practice in the top three facilities in Michigan, based on volume. An expansion of the Muskegon Surgery Center, a state-of-the-art outpatient surgical center located next door, created 50% more space and has facilitated meeting the surgical needs of more patients.

Additionally, a second OAM Urgent Care has opened in nearby Grand Haven, and the practice has grown its Orthopaedic Associates of Muskegon Physical and Occupational Therapy centers to four locations.

Veterans in Muskegon and the surrounding area are benefiting from the spring 2024 opening of a nearly $14 million community-based outpatient clinic. The modern and technologically advanced healing facility has been funded by the Battle Creek VA Medical Center. At 23,000 square feet, it will be nearly double the size of the previous facility on Hakes Drive and provide help to more veterans in primary care, mental health, social work and other services.

Specialty Services

Cardiovascular, pulmonary and neurology expertise is just a heartbeat away in North Muskegon at Corewell Health Specialty Care, the new name for Spectrum Health. These specialty services are all located at one modern, leading-edge center, where patients can be assured the specialists will work in tandem with their primary care physicians.

An extensive collection of services is available at multiple and clinical cardiology, cardiac stress testing, varicose and spider vein treatment, imaging, care for artery diseases, care for COPD and asthma, and the Structural Heart and Valve Center. And, when surgery is necessary, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons can be seen at this location.

Neurological Care 

Trinity Health Muskegon is a 10-story modern hospital with over 260 private rooms, a 67-room emergency department and a Level III trauma center. Services offered include gastroenterology, heart and vascular care, cancer care, bariatric surgery, and a labor and delivery birth center. 

With an eye on addressing the health issues of an aging society, such as treating Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and helping others in the Lakeshore region with neurological needs that affect the spine, brain and nervous system, Trinity Health Michigan opened the Trinity Health Neuroscience Center-Muskegon in late 2023.

The organization invested $8.7 million to renovate space in the Trinity Health Medical Center-Sherman Pavilion, just west of the Muskegon hospital campus, providing consolidated comprehensive neurological care.

Nearly 20 providers previously located at various places – along with a pharmacy, CT, MRI and ultrasound imaging equipment, and a lab for blood draws – are all under one roof.

The Lakeshore region is also benefiting from the latest and best available technology in lung cancer detection – a robotic-assisted bronchoscopy for peripheral lung biopsy being utilized by Trinity Health Medical Group pulmonologists. By being able to make an earlier diagnosis of lung cancer, prompt care may lead to improved survival rates for the community.
