Nearly half of the city's population consists of students who attend Oregon State University, a school known for innovation and research. The university's 400-acre campus includes a historic district that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The school offers several conferences and workshops for both students and non-students throughout the year and many free concerts, live performances, and art exhibits. Lots of Beaver football fans come to town on Saturdays during the fall, creating a party atmosphere.
The city hosts several seasonal events including musical performances, which are free and open to everyone. One of the most beloved events is the annual da Vinci Days, which is held in July and honors the arts and sciences. Activities during this three-day festival include a parade, races, musical performances, film festival and lots of food.
