#3. Chattanooga, TN

Why Chattanooga is an Awesome Place to Live: Chattanooga not only earned a place on Livability’s Top 100 Best Places to Live list, it was also rated the fourth best city to retire in. What makes this a perfect home base for any generation? Easy access to outdoor recreation (like rock climbing), a vibrant tech startup scene, friendly people, a prime location with easy access to tons of other cool cities and relatively low property taxes.

Easy Places to Get To From Chattanooga: Chattahoochee National Forest, Talladega National Forest, Coosa River, Nashville, Asheville, Knoxville and Atlanta.

Best Roadside Attraction Near Chattanooga: Ruby Falls, the tallest and deepest underground waterfall open to the public.

Our Favorite Road Trip Route: Chattanooga to Brasstown Bald Recreation Area for a picnic, a hike or just a great view. Brasstown to Atlanta with a stop at Consolidated Goldmine to try panning for gold or “mining” for gemstones. Then Atlanta back to Chattanooga, stopping at Old Car City and L. Marie’s Southern Cuisine for fried okra, fried green tomatoes and gator po’ boys.
