Founded way back in 1670, Charleston is the oldest city in South Carolina and a major tourism attraction thanks to its rich history and well-preserved architecture.

The city has long-standing buildings ranging from brightly colored cottage houses to the place where the Civil War began (Fort Sumter), thus landing Charleston on Livability.com’s list of Top 10 Best Cities for Historic Preservation. Students can attend higher education satellite campuses of The Citadel, College of Charleston and the University of South Carolina, and city amenities include nice restaurants, live music venues and one of the highest-ranked farmers markets in the South.
